Evocative Preview

The movie had no red carpet or tiresome promotional event, so Alexander and his co-stars had not much to do.

In a sense, Kid Psychic was like an independent film with no publicity stunts to be done but its ambitious and extremely wide net of release is enough to catch the attention of the plentiful fishes.

The Creed trio went to the theatres for the second time and this was not to spy on the competition but to support their own.

As low-key as can be, the three stars aka three solicitors aka three producers were seated amongst the crowd.

They had to wear clothes that would make them pretty unrecognizable and unrelated to the Smiths of the movie. Sullivan was still in the clear but Mark and his son were wearing baggy clothing in the summer.

They really regretted not going to the VIP section!

While the seats were still filling up, pre-movie intermissions were being played, and popcorn was being munched. The trio had their little discussion that was masked by the numerous discussion around them.

"I'm surprised that this many people even showed up for the first time." Alexander muttered while partaking in a little popcorn of his own.

"I guess the long time rolling of the advertisements was a big help." Sullivan grabbed a bit of popcorn from his grandson's order and munched on it to ease his nerves. "But, no matter how I deny it, the Jaws movie helped in raking in this many people in this season. Who would've thought that the beach-centered summer would be a theater uprising just because of one movie!"

"Good thing we scheduled things just right." Young Alex inserted as a reminder that he was the one who proposed that their movie be released on this schedule.

Even though it can be seen as prophetic but Alexander consulted his father on insider news and baited him into talking about Jaws during the planning of the premiere. Hence, the perfect alibi to hide his cheating foresight was made.

"Others might accuse us of just riding the wave but I say we can make a wave of our own." Mark was smiling nonstop from anticipation. He was the only one who saw the full film among the three of them, and as such he was very reassured that his film would have its place.

"Mm..." Savoring the salty popcorn, Young Alex gave an approving hum and praise to the theater delicacy.

"If anything, the films that would be accused of wave-riding would probably be Doc Savage and Race with the Devil." Sullivan had a great influence in the distribution company and he was the first to know that these two films would be screened at the same time as Kid Psychic.

"George Pal directed the former and the latter stars someone from the Fonda family, so it has got a bit of fight in it." Mark offered industry insights and others were sensible enough to hear them out.

"I am not too clear on the devil cult and racing theme of Race with the Devil but Doc Savage features ghostly elements." He had to give a forlorn sigh to their works. "Sadly, their special effects just aren't cut out and at the same level as ours."

"By the way, Dad! Have you done what I requested?"

"Yep!" Mark sighed in regret after being reminded of his son's questions. "It's a pity that people won't effectively notice your true contribution to this movie, Alexander!"

"My name is still listed there on those screenwriter and producer lists. It is just that people really have to squint their eyes to see it. Hehe!" Alexander laughed in return as he liked the feeling of being slightly anonymous and lowkey.

"It's for the best, Mark!" Old Sullivan was in full support of the mystery strategy. "We don't want those snooping competitors to open up my grandson's creative genius of a head."

Mark was still conflicted but with those words, he let it go. His son's poor name would only be shown in two in one-tenth of a second and that little splash on the creator's list would pave the way for the boy's safe and bright future.

As the seats beside them were filling up, other theatres that were scheduled to screen Kid Psychic was also following the same pace.

Due to Cosmic Pictures' adamant lobbying and strategic planning, a near-perfect filming schedule was to be followed.

Before the film was shown, the Voice of God-less Kid Psychic theatrical preview was there to set the mood.

Nearing the expected broadcast schedule, the ticket buyers were now mostly in their seats.

It was a bit noisy but the auditorium was lulled to silence when a striking piano key was heard. It wasn't Don Lafontaine or any other deep-voiced trailer narrator but it never failed to catch people's attention.

Cosmic Pictures whizzed by on the screen and James Smith's childish but solemn voice was monologuing.

"My name is James Smith. A young boy who can see ghosts but I am so much more..."

Dramatic piano music rose and a well-dressed boy walked on empty streets. It was a simple scene but then the camera angle directed shifted itself to the boy's handsome face.

A close-up of the pupils was enhanced, then it glowed blue!

"...for I am a psychic..."

The boy's empty surroundings suddenly became unusually crowded and the crescendo of the background piano was playing.

"... and it is time for you to see things from my perspective!"

Flashes of ghosts and spirits were being interspersed on the screen. Fiendish, ghoulish, and inexplicable.

The thrill of the piano rose and hastened... until it stopped. The screen turned black and the words Kid Psychic smokily formed.

Along with the words: Coming into theatres this 27th June of 1975!

Just when those words smokily faded, John Smith walked through the black background and continued his narration with a provocative tone.

"I hope you aren't too scared!"

The audience who watched the evocative and mysterious trailer had their emotions raised in expectation.

No matter how many times they've seen that unorthodox trailer, it still riled up their blood when a young boy would question their bravery. That influencing charm that transmitted from the projected screen was too imminent to be ignored!

Coupled with the fact that they are only a step away from seeing the film, the teaser trailer effectively stirred their heartstrings and made them look forward to it.

The Creed trio smiled at the audience's reaction and looked forward to the Cosmic Pictures opening sequence that is about to play.
