Chapter 4: Alpen

It was a cool morning at the spring, the water had a soft mist rolling off it and the surroundings were calm and quiet.

Not a single living thing could be seen, and the corpses from the previous night had been almost completely absorbed by the land surrounding the spring.

This silence was broken rather suddenly by a figure that burst through the surface of the spring.

Coughing up a lungfull of faintly glowing blue liquid, Asteria rose from the water and fell onto the ground.

She laid there staring up at the light blue sky for several minutes as she caught her breath.

She tried to speak, but her voice didn't come out. Both her throat and her arm were heavily damaged during her fight and weren't likely to heal enough to be used any time soon.

'Well that was a hell of a night,' she laughed in her mind. 'I guess I should find out how my stats have changed,' she thought as she opened the blue window and allocated her stat points.

'But more importantly, what does it mean to be able to evolve my class?' She wondered as she tapped on her class.

You call on the power of the stars to launch a barage of quickened attacks and magic at your enemies while you quickly evade their attacks. At higher levels you gain the ability to launch a barage of missiles that track your enemy until it hits during the night and powerful arrows that ignore Armour during the day.

You call on the power of the stars to empower your magic and increase your mana pool. At higher levels your casting time is decreased during the night and your spells are more potent during the day.

'This disguise skill might be pretty useful, same with the survivor title' she thought to herself as she started to bandage her wounds. It was difficult to do properly since one of her eyes was injured and her right arm was so badly mangled she was surprised it was still attached.

After she was done with that she began collecting as many mana fruits from the surrounding area as she could and stuffed them into the largest bag she could scavenge.

Once she had all the equipment and weapons she might need, she checked the map which was thankfully written in English, and she began to trek towards the nearest settlement on the map.

It was a small city called Alpen situated at the bottom of the mountain range. If she walked carefully for two days she would most likely be able to find it without having to fight anything dangerous.

With a bandage over her left eye, her right arm in a sling, a huge pack on her back, and a suitably large stick to use as a cane, she cast a disguise on herself so that her blood looked red and began her trek towards Alpen.

Elliott was the Captain of the Alpen Mountain Watch. While the title sounded fancy, all it really meant was that he watched the paths leading up the mountain and scared away any monsters or large animals that might wander too close. He would also keep note of the people who went up and down the mountain, making sure they were safe and didn't over hunt the wildlife.

He had expected to have another completely uneventful shift just like every other day.

What he did not expect was a haggard young girl who looked to be no older than 14 to suddenly appear from the treeline covered from head to toe in bloody bandages with a broken arm and a bag half her size.

Shocked at the scene he wasn't able to properly react until the child suddenly stumbled and collapsed moments after exiting the forest.

Seeing this happen he immediately sprang to action. "Someone call doctor Jensen immediately and get me a stretcher!" He shouted as he grabbed an emergency health potion and a camping pillow before sprinting out of the gate and towards the gate.

Before Asteria could make it to the gate she felt the last of her energy leave her as her vision blurred and she collapsed.

She heard shouting around her as she was gently lifted onto something soft.

"Your gonna be okay kid, I promise. We're taking you to a very skilled doctor right now. She'll get you all fixed up," said a soft voice above her.

Feeling a small amount of safety for the first time since she came to this world she closed her eyes and slept.

When she opened her eyes again she was in a hospital bed with clean sheets and a glass of water beside her.

Sitting next to her was a young woman with long green hair, kind looking brown eyes and a calm smile on her face.

"Finally awake are we miss star child?"
