Twin brothers undergoing traditional initiation
The years gone by Robin and David were adventurous twin they joined class seven second last senior most class in the 8-4-4 Kenyan education system at the age of ten years very inquisitive.
"We are almost going to high school we've grown up we are almost graduating to being adult we need to be circumcised" Robin said.
First thing first we need to impress our mothers by performing well in class that is a Lee way for us to influence our mothers to be circumcised" David said
"That's true remember we are going to the village to be circumcised according to the kalenjin tradition I yearn to be a real man" Robin said
"Remember your grandmother is a no nonsense mother she will be taking disciplinary action against us" David reiterated.
Robin laughed it was in the morning preparing to go to school Maggy came with break first Robin scratched his head David picked bread and eat.
"Recently there was meeting my father's friend came to school he brought him snacks, where is our father?" Robin asked.
Maggy shocked run our of words sandy heard what Robin asked she came to the dining room
"Don't worry you are still young you will know when you fully grow up" Sandy replied.
Maggy and Sandy looked at each other boys ate breakfast.
"Who will give us names immediately we graduated from the circumcision" David asked
Sandy surprised and wonder what to tell the twin boys tears trickled down she rushed quickly to the bedroom Maggy followed her not to show the boys that she shed tears they both cried in the bedroom while the boys wondered what could have happened to their mothers.
"Why did they rushed to the bedroom what is happening " David asked
"I have no idea I saw them rushing to the bedroom your mother Sandy shed tears" David reiterated
"Does it means your father and mine had a sad story but we are identical twin we should be from the same father but we have different mothers isn't that interesting? " Robin explained.
David went to to informed their mothers to bid them bye to go to school he wanted to open but the door was locked from inside.
"We are leaving to school" David said
"Goodbye boys! "Maggy and sandy responded.
They left to school there was no traffic jam on the way to school they ran while Maggy and Sandy still at the bedroom figuring out what to tell them.
"Nowadays the boys are very inquisitive" Maggy said
"Yes at this age they are that way since they are aging to be adolescence" Sandy reiterated.
"We have to be very understanding to them since they are lacking paternal love we need to have father figure" Maggy said.
David and Robin rushed to school reaching the teacher on duty who had already arrived they rushed past the teacher to their classroom. They checked on their assignment to see if it was in order.
"Where is my English exercise book? Robin asked
David checked on his bag he found it was inside his bag.
"Thanks, I got frightened, thought I forgot on the table at home," Robin said.
There was an eerie silence that was heard in the classroom were children coughing no one was talking.
"I am glad that we have finished all our assignments," Robin said.
"We agreed that we need to be very nice to our mothers and performed very well for us to be allowed to be circumcised," David said.
"Yes bro we need to work extra hard to persuade them to allow us to be circumcised" Robin reiterated
It was eight o'clock the English lesson started and the English teacher came in.
"English teacher has come," Robin said.
"Don't worry we finished English homework" David said.
"I need all your exercise books for marking monitor and prefect to collect the books," the teacher said.
The perfect and the class monitor collected all the exercise books for marking the teacher continued to teach until the end of the lesson.
The teacher marked the homework she discovered that only the two boys managed to score all the marks in the exercise.
There was a class seven student who came to pick exercise books from the teacher
"You came here I want to send you to call for. Me Robin and David the twin boys" the Teacher said
"The two boys are not twin they resemble but they are from the same mother," the Student said.
The student rushed it was on break time to call the boys to the staffroom.
"Robin and David's English teacher is calling for you," The pupil said.
"Have we done any mistakes why is she calling us to the staffroom?" Robin asked.
"Don't worry let's go maybe it's good news" David said.
They rushed to the staffroom room, the teacher was waiting for them.
"Can you tell me who is who?" Did the teacher ask?
"You two pick your book" the Teacher instructed
Robin picks his book and David picks another one.
"You are Robin and you you are David? Teacher asked.
"What is your name teacher?" Robin asked.
"My name is Miss Winnie," The teacher said.
Robin smiled and looked at the floor
"You mean you don't know my name and I am your class teacher?" Winnie asked
Robin looked at the floor in embarrassment.
"I see you are performing very well in class or are you copying from each other" Winnie asked.
"No we are not copying our mother's will not allow us to do that" Robin responded.
"You mean you are from different mothers?" Winnie asked
"Yes we are from different mothers but from the same place Kericho hospital" Robin reiterated
I see you are performing very well boys I need you to do the same in the forthcoming examination" Madam Winnie said
"OK we promised our mothers too that we will emerge position one on the closing day," Robin said.
"What do you want to be in the future?" Winnie asked.
"Captain in the army," Robin said
"I too captain or an engineer in the army," David said.
"Why do you want to be a soldier? Winnie asked.
"We want to protect our country and we need also to know how to use superior weapons as in the movies," David said confidently.
Madam Winnie loved how the boys conducted themselves the twin boys left.
The following week was an examination week Robin and David studied hard over the weekend Maggy and Sandy were busy doing the cleaning of the house since they don't have time over the week to do the cleaning.
"Our boys are doing examination this coming week they are busy reading especially Robin my son," Sandy said.
"Even Robin I don't know what they are after in the coming examination is it because they are going to the final class eight," Maggy said.
"I think so it's my first time to see them very serious in their studies," Sandy said.
"Have you talked with their grandfather about their initiation?" Maggy asked.
"Yes I have talked with him he is already building a homestead for them to be initiated in" Sandy reiterated.
"Please don't inform them first they are going to disrupt their learning" Maggy reiterated.
"That is true let's break the news after finishing their last paper," Sandy said.
