Returning to his room, Guihu Luixing found a sleeping Dark Moon on his bed. It seemed that not finding him, she had to make do eith his sheets.
He was beginning to get suspicious of her behaviour. Dark Moon used to throw tantrums when things didn't go her way. Guihu Luixing not being where she expected him to be was usually one of them.
Well, he was busy right now, so he wasn't complaining. In fact he was rather glad she was sleeping, as he wouldn't have to spend a long time consoling and petting her.
He quietly made his way to his cultivation mat and sat down. He began to study the Primordial Soul Mantra.
The Primordial Soul Mantra was consisted of three sections: The cultivation technique, the ghost manifestation and ghost cultivation technique and finally, a large encyclopedia containing information about many useful treasures, creatures related to ghosts and some realms and hidden places that one might find such treasures and creatures.
The information contained in the encyclopedia was certainly useful, but Guihu Luixing didn't really have time to internalise that information. It's amount is just too great.
Although he really wanted to try his hand in manifesting and controlling ghosts, his main target was strengthening himself, the ghosts could come later.
Guihu Luixing started the incantation of the mantra. At first, he didn't feel much. Just when he was thinking that maybe the system did make a fool out of him, he started to feel an odd sensation from somewhere.
He didn't immediately understand what was going on. Only after some time did he discover that what he was feeling was a sligh discomfort, one he felt before.
As time passed the discomfort became greater and greater until it became clear pain. A pain in his soul! The obelisk!
Guihu Luixing immediately made the connection in his mind.
It now made sense. If the obelisk was a fragment of information that someone managed to extract from the voices of wailing, and a tiny fragment of that so much information about souls, then just how much information did the voices contain?
Soon, Guihu Luixing didn't have the luxury of thinking about that anymore. The mantra was causing his soul to vibrate. Each vibration tempered his soul's flexibility and resilience.
Image the soul as bread dough. Bread dough is initially very soft, uneven and breaks apart easily. After kneading the dough for some time, it becomes even, more resilient and moldable.
It was the same principle, but instead of kneading the soul, something that certainly would lead to death, hos souls was being improved by vibration.
Being less a less violent method however, didn't mean it was less painful. Imagine your most fragile spot suddenly being shaken by an external force. And the shake was gradually becoming worse.
That's how Guihu Luixing felt at that moment. In his point of view, existence itself was shaking.
It was no surprise he soon woke up from his cultivation state. He wanted to rush to the bathroom in order to throw up, but unfortunately, he was in no condition to stand up. He still felt everything shaking. He was incredibly pale and sweating like crazy.
If someone else saw him right now, they would think that he either just received the world's greatest scare, or he just survived a world shattering earthquake.
After some minutes, he managed to recompose himself. He immediately noticed some changes.
First, the range he could control Qi greatly increased. Before he could at best sense and control Qi in an area nearly three meters around himself. Now he could sense and control Qi in over five meters around himself. He almost doubled it.
He also noticed he could control Qi much better, as he could compress much more Qi around himself, greatly increasing his offensive and defensive capabilities.
Guihu Luixing was simply astonished with how much progress he made in such short time. He was really close to breaking through to the Qi Gathering Realm now.
He couldn't help but think if one truly would become unbeatable if they really perfectly master the Primordial Soul Mantra.
He was still in the Soul Awareness Realm, the first realm of soul cultivation and it gave him such a powerful advantage over others. He was completely confident that if he fought against Hector Schmitt again. His victory would be much smoother.
Guihu Luixing wanted to immediately continue cultivating, but as soon as he started chanting the mantra, he felt terrible. It seemed he needed a longer rest, his soul was still not recovered from the intense training.
Not wanting to give up completely, he started to study the other part, the ghost manifestation and ghost controlling techniques!
After his duel against Yewan Meiling, Guihu Luixing noticed how difficult was to fight against many ghosts. Yewan Meiling herself was much, much weaker than Guihu Luixing and Hector Schmitt, but even then, she defeated a wounded Hector and made Guihu Luixing spend a lot of time in order to defeat her.
Ghosts were definitely useful in combat, and according to the Primordial Soul Mantra, even more useful outside of it.
Ghosts were unparalleled in scouting, sneaking and breaking in, a rather distasteful skillset, but one Guihu Luixing would definitely need in the future. Ghosts also made great assassins, guardians, fuel and even companions.
At his level, it was unlikely Guihu Luixing would be able to tame a ghost that would be loyal to him. Most likely than not, it would attack him as soon as it felt he was trying to tame it.
The only method left was a contract. He would offer a mortal soul the possibility of transforming it into a ghost, and it would serve him for a period of time. These contracts were rather common among newbie ghost manipulators, but the more experient and secrets a cultivator had, more disadvantages this method offered.
But to Guihu Luixing it would suffice, for now.
Guihu Luixing left his room to look for a.spot where souls gathered.
What Guihu Luixing didn't know was that Dark Moon woke up when he started chanting the mantra. She also felt the effects of the mantra and, combined with her exhaustion, she ended up fainting when he stopped.
Whether this was a good or bad thing, it was yet to be seen.

It wasn't difficult to find a spot where souls gathered. Naturally, Ghost Fox Valley Sect had this kind of places aplenty, like it's name, it was very closely related to Ghost Foxes, that are very related to ghosts.
The problem was to find one of those spots where people wouldn't witness nor interrupt what he was about to do.
After a vouple of hours, Guihu Luixing finally found one of those places. It was in some woods that were by the side of the Scroll Pavillion.
It was secluded and in a relatively safe area, just as Guihu Luixing needed.
He waived his had and took out a few materials he had stored in the system storage, in preparation for this.
It was blood, probably belonging to a now dead chicken or cow, some Qi stones, a gardening spade and some pieces of paper.
After confirming everything was there, he psyched himself up.
"Let's do this."
