Wolves

"Roller, pass!"

"Salamander, pass!"

"Starsword, fail!"

"Hellfire, pass!"

Jack picked up the daggers one by one and called out the player who made it, give them the dagger and then saying whether they pass or not.

Calvin waited anxiously for his name to be called out. Right as Jack called out over half of the total players did Calvin heard his name.

"Zeke, pass!"

Calvin smiled in relief as he received his dagger and waited patiently while Jack told the rest of the results.

It didn't take long for the 50 players who joined the test to hear their results. Some were disappointed and some were overjoyed.

Overall, the ones who didn't pass the test were more than half of the total players present in the test.

Jack smiled and said encouragingly, "For those who failed this test, do not worry as you can take the next test anytime you want. The cost is also cheap, only 40 coppers and you can take the test. So don't be sad that you failed since its normal to fail at something that your doing for the first time."

Jack then turned towards those who passed and said seriously. "As for those who passed, do not let this moment go over your head and act arrogant in the future. There's still more you need to learn and being arrogant will only spell your doom."

A smile returned to Jack's face as he said. "Ok that's the end of the test. Your now free to go back to what you guys want to do. But before you left..."

Jack handed another book to each of the players. "This is a guidebook for the guild. You can learn there everything you need to know about the guild for now. And also you can keep the dagger. Take it as a gift from the guild for you young players."

All the players were suprised as they didn't expect to receive a free iron dagger. They thanked Jack before leaving the guild while Jack stayed behind the room thinking to himself.

'This batch of players were rather nice compared to the earlier batches. Sigh, it looks like no matter what world it is, there would always be differences in people.'

Jack left the room while smiling to himself and wishing good luck to the players he just met.

After leaving the blacksmith building, Calvin continued exploring the rest of the village.

He didn't come to any things that are noteworthy which made him a bit disappointed since he was kind of expecting to meet a lucky opportunity in the village.

He didn't think too much about it though as he continued forward to the place he purposefully left as the last thing he wants to visit. The mayor house.

Once he arrived there, he saw lots of players lining up in front of the gate. There's a table just before the gate and sitting behind that table is a middle aged man with two guards beside him.

Calvin looked from afar and used inspect.

[Harold, Village 69 Mayor]

Level: ??

Calvin walked towards the end of the line and quietly stood there, waiting for his turn.

The reason why majority of the players were here standing in the line is because the game developers said that a quest could be received from the mayor when a player is level 2.

It surprised many players since they didn't expect to receive this help from the developers. The representative of NDO only said one thing when they were asked the reason for this.

"It's to help the players in the early stages of the game since the game will get progressively harder as the game continues to operate."

As Calvin thought of the representative's words that he heard from the TV, he couldn't help but have doubts about NDO.

'Normally, developers would try to hide any information from the players to ensure that the game remains interesting. But NDO's different. Besides the general information like death penalties or the bonus exp, they give so much tips for the beginning phase of the game. And these tips seems to point players to a direction where all of us can progress the fastest way in the game. NDO is sus man.'

While Calvin is doubting the intentions of NDO, he noticed that he's already facing the mayor. The mayor has an average build with a fairly handsome appearance with short brown hair and amiable black eyes with some neat beard.

Calvin bowed a little and asked politely. "Hello mr. mayor. May I know if I can help with something?"

Harold smiled as he rubbed his beard. "Oh yes young man. There is in fact a thing that I need your help with."

Calvin asked excitedly, "May I know what is it?"

"The numbers of wolves outside the village have been increasing too much. Can you kill 20 of those wolves for me? Don't worry, I assure you that you'll receive a proper reward once you finish this." explained Harold with a smile.

Calvin replied, "I'll try my best."

Harold gazed at Calvin for a moment before chuckling and said, "Then I'll wait for your good news young man."

Calvin said goodbye and didn't dally anymore as he jogged towards the forest outside of the village.

While jogging, he remembered that he removed the armor when he was forging back in the guild. He equipped it immediately lest he forget it later and suffer because of it.

The forest is just besides the plains so it only rook him 20 minutes of jogging before he reached it.

There were many players roaming around the forest and the occasional howls of wolves coming from the forest gave chills to Calvin.

Calvin looked around cautiously, trying to stay far away from the players and moving as quietly as possible. He didn't want to invite any trouble upon him from players and he didn't want to experience pvp at this point.

After moving around quietly, he quickly found a wolf pack that consists of three wolves laying down in a small area with trees around them.

Closing in for a bit, he inspected the wolves covered in black fur and is as big as the wolves on Earth.

[Wolf, 1st grade, Common]

Level: 2

Hp: 120/120

'Should I go for it?' Calvin asked himself, hesitation clear on his face.

He didn't know whether he can fight three wolves at the same time and he didn't want to lose a level because of stupidity.

After thinking for a second, he decides to take a risk and fight it. He wants to learn how to fight against multiple enemies early on before its too late.

A determined gaze appeared on his eyes and despite his nervousness, Calvin felt excited for the fight as he walked towards the wolves quietly with his lips unconsciously curving upwards into a smile.
