Marty double-tapped on the mic to get the attention of the audience.
"I would like to welcome to the stage, Miss Maya Hunts."
When Flora heard this, she wanted to believe it is not the Maya Hunts she knows. Until she came out.
Maya was scared that she would flop in front of all those crowds. She eventually came out looking as graceful as ever. Her ball gown was exorbitant, it was lilac I'm colour. It was floor-length and prodigiously faltering. She wore a pair of white gloves on her hands, which covered her elbows. She accompanied her ball gown with a curly plait hairstyle and a beautiful pair of shoes. When she came out, Mr Weeks was staggered by her dazzling and transcendent beauty.
Maya had a shapely figure even one could tell from the massive ball gown she put on. Her corsets were not as tight as Flora's but her cleavages were clearly visible. She had slim waits and glossy skin, and her makeup was radiant as ever. Marty placed the microphone on its stand so she could start singing. Immediately she opened her mouth to start singing, everyone was in awe and they listened attentively.
"The winner of your local competition yes?" Deryn side talked with his father.
"Yes, son, the winner of my competition." Mr Weeks replied. When deep down he knew she wasn't the arranged winner.
Flora couldn't believe that Maya made it out of Pine Hills. When Maya finished singing, everyone gave her a standing ovation except Flora. Mr Weeks and his son couldn't stop applauding Maya.
"Thank you all, I feel honoured and privileged to be here," Maya said. She spoke elegantly all the time. As though she had finished formal education. As Maya was about to leave the stage, Mr Weeks informed Marty to tell Maya to take her seat at one of the tables. Marty did as such, and Maya sat alone. Mr Weeks took to the podium and said,
"What a wonderful performance from the exuberant Miss Maya Hunts."
Everyone cheered for her in accordance with what Mr Weeks said.
"She would be presented with her 10,000 dollars cheque shortly." Mr Weeks added.
Then a voice echoed from a PA,
"Presenting the new Nutri Product! Nutra C!"
A lady carried the product and placed it on a trivet. The product was protected by glass. Everyone was applauding as the lady brought the product.
"Thank you, thank you." Mr Weeks said. "Nutra C, another product of this very prestigious company. One might ask what does Nutra C do, well I'm here to tell you. We all know how important my father took nutritional values that is why we came up with this product. It reduces your risk of chronic disease. It may even help manage high blood pressure, I can see some Geezers here. It lowers your risk of heart disease, may reduce blood uric acid levels and help prevent gout attacks, boosts immunity and many more. I believe in this product and you all should as well. Remember health is wealth."
"Health is my bank account!" One of the billionaires yelled in the crowd. Everyone laughed at what he said.
They all continued to eat and drink until Marty came up to the podium and said it was time to dance. It was a royal-themed party, so they were to dance like it were a ball.
Everyone stood up from their seats and went to the dance floor. They all partnered with their wives. Deryn and Mr Weeks had no one to partner with, so Deryn decided to ask Maya to dance with him, and Maya agreed. She did not know how to dance like the way everyone was dancing, sometimes she'd step on Deryn's toes but he wouldn't mind. Mr Weeks couldn't watch his son dance with Maya, so he left to bring the cheque.
"Maya you look ravishing this fine evening," Deryn said with a smile.
"Thank you, uh-" Maya did not know his name,
"Deryn, Deryn Weeks."
"Well then, thank you Deryn."
"Ouch!" Deryn said.
"Again, I'm so sorry. I knew I was born with two left feet." Maya moaned as they both laughed about it.
Flora couldn't keep her eyes off Maya. She was spiteful of her.
"Look at me you ingrate." Mr Lin said aggressively to Flora.
"Maybe I don't want to look at you, so I don't turn into stone." Flora retorted.
Mr Lin was furious but he controlled himself. Shortly, Mr Weeks came to the podium and told everyone that the dancing was over. And that they should return to their seats as Miss Maya receives her cheque. Deryn escorted Maya to her seat, he even took a seat beside her. Mr Weeks saw this and decided to call Maya to the podium. He handed her the cheque and said,
"The winner of my local singing competition, Maya Hunts!"
Maya didn't believe it. 10,000 dollars just in one night. She wondered how much more she'd make if she stayed a little longer. The ceremony was coming to an end slowly. Mr Weeks searched for Marty, he saw him talking to some staff, he called him by the side so they could talk,
"Marty, I just wanna say-" the embarrassed Mr Weeks was cut short by Marty,
"I didn't see anything, sir, I opened the door and I saw you preparing for your big speech. You killed it, by the way, Mr Wayne."
Mr Weeks couldn't believe what he just heard, he laughed briefly and patted Marty on the back, he pointed at him saying,
"You deserve a raise in salary. By 0.2 per cent." Mr Weeks laughed as he went to wish farewell and a safe journey to his billionaire friends. He met Mr Lin,
"Thank you Mr Lin for coming. I really appreciate it."
"You're welcome, I'll take my leave now with my wife." Mr Lin said.
Flora was trying to signal Mr Weeks so he could see that she dropped her number under the glass cup. Flora stood up to follow her husband. When Mr Weeks noticed the paper with Flora's number, he picked it up and put it in his pocket while smiling at her sexually.
Mr Weeks also met the president of their billionaire club, CLUB DENAIRE, to thank him and appreciate him for coming to his launching ceremony. After bidding his billionaire buddies farewell, he went looking for Maya. He never had a one-on-one conversation with her throughout the night. His attention was divided because he tried to meet with the needs of everyone who wanted his attention after his ceremony.
"Mr Weeks, you have a call from the TV media, Stellar, do you wanna take it or leave them a message?" One of his staff asked.
"I'm fucking busy." Me Weeks said to her. He resumed his normal arrogant ways after his ceremony.
"Uh... He said he's fucking busy?" His staff said.
Mr Weeks couldn't find Maya inside the hall, so he went outside. He saw her taking a cab from a distance and he ran towards her and said at the top of his voice,
"Wait!"
Maya was about to enter the cab when she heard someone shouting wait, wait, wait repeatedly. The cab was horning furiously because Maya was wasting his time. Mr Weeks finally caught up with her. He said to her as he was breathing heavily,
"Don't go- yet" He coughed as he said.
"Fuck, I haven't taken a run for some time now." He added.
"Mr Weeks, is that right?" Maya asked.
"Yes, Maya. Don't go yet, I wanna talk to you."
"But my cab is here," Maya said.
Mr Weeks spoke to the cab driver and he left, leaving them to be alone.
