CHAPTER SIX: THE PERFECT REJECTION

At the restaurant, Maya handed Deryn a tissue,

"Here, I'm so sorry." She consoled Deryn after hearing the story of how he lost his mom.

"It must have been hard to take," Maya said looking at him with pity.

"It was even harder for my dad. He didn't take it so well." Deryn said.

Maya took Deryn by the hands, "Let's leave the past and focus on the future." She suggested.

Deryn agreed, he decided to revisit their former topic about Maya's need to get a job,

"So, about that job. I'll talk to my dad, I'll see what he can do." Deryn said.

Maya's eyes were wide open in shock when she heard this,

"Really? You'd do that for me? Thank you so much, Deryn." Maya said. She got up from her seat to give him a hug. After the hug, Maya went back to her seat. Her hands were on her head, she couldn't believe that she could finally get a job.

"You're very nice, you deserve good things," Deryn said to Maya with a warm smile. Maya returned the smile to him.

AT NUTRI LTD

Mr Weeks left his company early. He usually leaves late in the evening. But this time he left too early. He met with Marty and told him to cancel all meetings he has, and that he was going out.

"Sir is there... any location, so I can construct a valid reason for your absence." Marty stammered.

"You don't gotta get all nosy all the time Marty, you're better than this." Mr Weeks said irritated by Marty's question.

"Sir, believe me, I'm not trying to be nosy. I'm just-" Marty was cut short by Mr Weeks,

"You're just what, huh? What did I say about nosy motherfuckers?" Mr Weeks said.

"I'm sorry Sir, it will never happen again," Marty said. He felt threatened, so he quickly left the sight of Mr Weeks.

Mr Weeks went to the spot he parked his car and drove out of the company, he was almost out of the company when he saw his son, Deryn and Maya in a restaurant talking and laughing together. He wanted to go over there but he ignored them and drove off.

MR LIN'S MANSION

Flora was in her dressing room, she wore make-up and a fancy dress. She topped it off with fancy earrings and necklaces. Her husband, Mr Lin came in and asked her why she was putting on fancy clothes and make-up,

"Is it a crime to always look pretty?" Flora asked her husband as she wiped the red lipstick off her mouth with wipes, then she turned to him and gave him a sinister smile.

"I don't trust you, you lying bitch!" Mr Lin said furiously. "You might be going to that slum, Pine Hills again. So I took precautionary measures." He added.

Flora was confused, "precautionary measures? What do you mean by that" Flora demanded.

Mr Lin smiled dubiously, "I'm taking your car keys with me." He said.

"You psychopathic fat old geezer!" Flora said agitatedly. She was boiling with anger, "You have no right to do that!" She said.

"Right?! Right?! You are my right. I gave you this life. You owe me, and I own you. I am your god, without me, you would have remained in that slum, suffering like your bitch of a mother." Mr Lin said at the top of his voice.

Flora hit her dressing table hard, twice. Then she pointed at Mr Lin, "don't you ever, call my mother a bitch!" Flora said in tears.

"Your mother is a bitch, who gave birth to a prostitute," Mr Lin said without remorse.

Flora couldn't take the insults from Mr Lin anymore she fell to her knees crying,

"Give me my keys! Give me my keys! Give me my keys!" Flora screamed.

Mr Lin looked at his wife on the floor, then he looked at his expensive wristwatch, and sees that he was late for a meeting,

"I'm leaving now. And, get up from that floor!" He ordered as he left. After Mr Lin left his house, Flora got up from the floor, took her phone from her purse and texted Mr Weeks,

I can't make it to the hotel. New venue, his fucking mansion.

AT THE RESTAURANT

Maya took her bag ready to leave for her motel when Deryn asked her if he could take her home. Maya didn't want anyone to see where she lived. She wasn't proud of it,

"No, thank you." She said abruptly.

Deryn was stunned by the way she responded, "is there.. any problem?" He asked.

"Of course not Deryn. I just prefer to take a cab." Maya said as she laughed briefly.

"Well unfortunately for you, I insist. Plus I don't take no's for an answer." He carried her over his shoulders and took her to his car. Maya laughed until he placed her in his car. She had never seen and entered such a beautiful and luxurious car before. She was marvelled by the car,

"It's so beautiful." She said.

Deryn couldn't believe she was marvelled by a BMW 3 series,

"Stop it, it's not that beautiful," Deryn begged Maya.

"No, but it is. I'm not even trying to be funny." Maya said.

"My dad's cars are way better," Deryn said as he entered his car and banged the door closed.

"Cars? Woah," Maya said as she closed her own side of the door.

Deryn was about to turn on his car with his keys when his phone rang, he answered it,

"Hey buddy," It was his old coursemate, Maverick that was on the phone. Maya sat quietly listening to their conversation.

"...oh my goodness. How could I forget! Happy birthday, bro." Deryn said as he hit his hands on his forehead.

Maverick told him on the phone that he would be throwing his birthday at his condominium in 15 minutes time. Before replying to his friend, he turned to ask Maya how many minutes drive is her home from his father's company. She knew she had to lie, she did not want Deryn to drop her off,

"It's a 25 minutes drive." She said.

Deryn asked her again, "are you busy?" Maya had no idea of the next thing Deryn was about to say, so she said that she was not busy.

Deryn returned to his call and said, "We'll be there shortly." Deryn said with a smile.

"Ouuuuuuuu," His friend Maverick said through the phone.

"Dude, shut the fuck up," Deryn said as he chuckled.

"Don't mind me Deryn, see you both soon," Maverick said as he ended their call.

After the call, Maya was a little pissed at Deryn, she immediately said, "excuse me, We!?"

"Do you have a problem with that?" Deryn said confusedly.

"You should have asked me first!" Maya stressed.

"I did, I asked you if you were busy and you said No," Deryn explained to Maya.

"You sly fox," Maya chuckled. "I'm not even in the right dress. I look like a rejected cast from suites." Maya added.

"A perfect rejection," Deryn said with a smile. They both laughed afterwards. Deryn offered to take Maya to a nearby store where he could buy a new dress for her. She rejected the offer but Deryn insisted. They both went to the store to find a perfect party dress and they did. Maya came out of the dressing closet to showcase her new dress to Deryn and the lady that worked in the store. Deryn was agape. It was a red short body hug dress. It brought out the body shape of Maya, and also displayed her breasts,

"How much?" Deryn asked the lady. He couldn't keep his eyes off Maya.

"3,000 dollars." The lady replied.

"Oh my goodness, it's too much. I'll return it." Maya said quickly.

"No!" Deryn screamed, he got himself back together and said, "no, I'll pay for it." He quickly removed the money from his wallet and gave it to the lady. Deryn couldn't stop staring at Maya,

"Perfect rejection." He said bewildered by Maya's beauty.
