Troy woke up and it struck him that something was wrong. He turned to his side, and she wasn’t there. He walked over to their bathroom and her sink was unused.
Panic began to set in as his pace quickened and he walked to her closet. He threw it open and saw only her suits. His heart beat erratically and too fast for the activity he was doing.
A cold sweat built on his forehead and his head felt light. He gripped the closet door tightly just in case his legs gave way. He forced himself to take deep breaths.
His mind went back to the conversation he’d had with her last night. She said she loved him and that she was with him until he found the underlying cause of the story. She hadn’t been lying.
His heart and his mind agreed that she had been telling the truth. Troy grabbed his robe and put it on.
The boy’s room was clean, and nothing was out of place. Troy fought the panic as he went down the stairs. The house was spotless, and he found Aaron heading into the kitchen.
