29. Uneasy

Eve quietly watched Troy and interacted with the boys and Sekuru Monde as if it were all perfectly normal. Not once did Eve demand that Ritah do any work. When Sekuru Monde questioned Eve about this she smiled and demurred.

Once she told him, “Sekuru, please don’t worry. As women we know what work needs to be done and should of course handle it. Maybe the pregnancy is at a difficult stage where she can’t do more than she is doing now.”

Sekuru Monde had frowned and reassured her that he would speak to his niece about contributing more to the household. It was already awkward for him to be bringing a grown woman with a child already into the home of an already married man.

t was even more embarrassing for him to bring it up with Troy. After all, as an elder there were certain things one was wary of telling another man to do. Especially when it meant that his family would be the one to lose face.
