Anathema - The Curse

I really feel a lot for the little boy Robinson Crusoe right now. He was so innovative and courageous. I do admit that it took a lot of time to return home but at least he survived. I don't share the same hope now.

Why? Because we are not going to survive. Sure I thought that after the painful tragedy we have experienced, we will do things to survive like the people in the movies were stuck on the island.

But nope. Instead of thinking to do the next right thing, weare fighting like the children.

What about me? Well, I have zoned out. Let them take out their energy in fighting because no one is listening to my reasoning. I hate the idea of siblings right now.

"You know what? I really don't care if you live or die." Grace snaps at Luca.

"Don't I know that? In the End the only thing you'll care about is fashion and nails and shoes and clothes and blah blah ...." Luca shouts back at her.

Seriously how can a simple conversation of what to do next can convert into a full blown squabble between all of us. Except me, okay.

"Don't you talk like that to her, Luca." Anya says and wraps her arms around Grace.

"This has got to end. Otherwise we won't get home." Noah whispers near me.

"As if I don't know that." I shout in a very frustrated yet loud voice with starters everyone enough to look at me.

I have to take charge right now otherwise it will be the death of me.

"Stop it everyone. Shut it." I shout again.

"But-" Grace starts but I cut her out.

"I know we are in danger. I also know that we are stuck on an island with no source of communication. But fighting with each other isn't going to help right now. We need each other to survive and for that we need to stop fighting and help each other instead." I state firmly.

"It won't have started if this girl can keep her mouth shut." Gregor growls out.

Sensing a fight raising out, Anya starts to speak, "Swastik is right. We need each other to survive otherwise we will never get back home."

Sweet Anna, always the voice of reason. Thank god she is not a knucklehead like everyone around me.

Slowly, some amount of sense starts to see into everyone and they nod.

"So what do we do now?" Grace asks.

"Right now, let's go shopping." Luca snickers.

Not again. I glare at Luca.

"What, I was just trying to make everyone laugh?" Lucas with an innocent shrug when he sees my dark look.

"You knew exactly what you were doing." Anya deadpans.

"Well teasing aside, let's find something dry which we can collect in a heap to light fire. It's already evening and by the time we get into the forest it will be very dark." I say before anyone starts arguing again.

Everyone scatters around near the show line and grabs whatever they could find.

By the time we are finished, we have a nice pile of twigs, broken branches, leaves, etc.

"Anya! Grace! Do any of you have your keychains in your bags?" I ask.

They both look at each other and then Grace turns towards her very pink bag, takes out her keychain and hands it to me. Her very big and overcrowded, pink keychain.

"What are you planning to do with it?" Anya asks.

"I suppose he will use the lighter in the keychain to build a fire." Noah states.

"Don't misunderstand that we smoke, Swastik. It's just that-" Anya starts.

I cut her off, saying, "I know, rabbit. You don't smoke. It's just a weapon both of yours and Grace's father have installed in your keychain along with an inflammable smoke device to protect you."

Around us Gregor and Luca bring out the last of their findings.

"How did you know?" Grace asks.

"Not everyone is as dumb as you are, Grace." Luca deadpans.

Anya reaches out and smacks him on his head while Gregor confesses, "I know that you asked us to keep it a secret but he is my best friend so I told him."

"This is so embarrassing." Anya squeaks out.

"It's not embarrassing. Your parents care about you just like mine and Noah's do." I try to explain.

"But I am skilled at self defence too. We all are yet all the extra weapons are given to Grace and me. They don't hand out special weapons to you boys."

"That's because they love you a tad bit with more"

"When you put it like that…" Anya in a thoughtful way and then smiles at me. I live to see her smile like this.

"Do you think our parents know that we are missing right now?" Grace asks.

"Knowing their overprotective nature, I am surprised to see no rescue helicopters and ships in sight." Gregor says in a playful voice.

At his words everyone laughs. But then we all fall silent worried about our respective loving and overprotective parents.

I miss you, Aai and Dad.
