Anathema - The Curse

I wake up the next day facing a beautiful sunrise. To be honest, I am kind of a night owl. Surprisingly I am up at dawn today and observing the first sunrise in my entire life.

The sky is coloured in beautiful shades of purple, orange, pink and red. The sun which I couldn't look at before is now visible to my eyes because of the low glare. It looks white in colour. The entire atmosphere is calm and quiet except for the chirping of birds which seem to have been woken up by the sun.

The sun is mesmerising and it reminds me of the lines about the poem 'Summer Sun' by Robert Louis Stevenson-

'Great is the sun and wide he goes,

Through empty heaven without repose.'

"Enjoying the sunrise?" Anya asks.

I swivel my head around to look at her coming towards me. Although she is in the same dirty clothes of yesterday, to me she was never more beautiful.

She said down beside me while answering her, "Yes. I never knew that sunrise could be so beautiful. None of the paintings or the pictures compare."

"Now you get why I insist you get up early." She chuckles and puts her head on my shoulder.

After her comment we both fall silent and enjoy the sunrise. The events of last night rush back into my mind. After a great long silence of recalling our parents and worrying about them, we grabbed whatever chocolates and snacks we could find in the bags and used them to sate our hunger. There wasn't much but it was enough to keep us through the night. After that we slept and rested our bodies while taking turns to stand guard. I thought that Grace might complain about sleeping on the sand but she didn't. Everyone was exhausted last night.

Coming back to the present, ahead of us, Luca and Gregor are sitting on the sand while they murmur to each other. I think those who were the last to keep guard.

"Let me go back and wake up, Noah and Grace," Anya whispers and takes off.

Looks like there is no point in just sitting here. Might as well get my entertainment from the Sokolov brothers.

I stand up to go sit near them.

"-everyone wakes up." Gregor finishes.

"What's up?" I ask.

"Good morning to you too, Montgomery." Both of them reply.

"Okay! Okay! Jeez, Since when did you become a stickler for manners? Good morning, Young Masters Sokolov. Now could you please tell me what you were talking about?"

"Well I was getting bored of just sitting here-" Luca starts.

"Don't tell me you went to hang around leaving us unprotected." I say in an exasperated voice.

"-so I went around and found a worn out path." he finishes.

"Wait? What? Did you just say what I think you said?" I ask dumbfounded.

"Yes, dumbhead. There is a worn out path down there." Luca points towards his left.

"So that means there is…."

"Civilization." The three of us say in unison.

There is civilization…

There is a way home…
