Regret

"Dude shouldn't we be worried,I mean out of the blue comes a girl named Jessica", Stephen asked.

"Nahh I'm not sure, her voice doesn't sound like the other robots and even at that her actions look pretty humanlike", I said as I looked at her.

"Hmm I'm still gonna be careful oh and I realized something yesterday", He said with a beaming smile.

"You know when you asked me why a robot hadn't attacked us yet", he asked me.

"Umm yeah I remember, what about that",I replied as I opened my E-book and started writing the assignment on the board.

"Well remember that survey about two weeks ago, well it was discovered that the robots only attacked people in tech city and just about 52% of the city's population", He said.

"Hmm and these people that answered the survey are people who survived the attack but at that moment the police confirmed that 28 people have died", I said to him as I continued writing.

"Exactly, now think about this what about the remaining 40% or so", He said.

"They haven't been attacked and we make the 40%", I said as I dropped my E-book and looked at him.

"Now another survey was conducted again just yesterday on those people who made up the 50% or so and guess what, about 87.5% of that 50% or so were alive to answer the survey", He said.

"So wait they were attacked again", I asked as I looked at the window.

"That's it, It means that the robots are attacking just a few set of people", he said to me.

"Then those people all have something in common for them to be attacked twice or so and most likely with a different body appearance and we haven't been attacked yet?", I asked

"Definitely", He said.

"I have to find out, I need to go meet that lady and find out what she has with that guy the robot copied", I said.

"Yeah sure after school", He said as he started licking a lollipop

School went by quickly mostly because I kept on thinking of the disguise I should put on when I meet her and ...

"Hey", Someone said as she stood in front of me. It was Jessica.

"Umm Hey, Jessica right", I asked.

"Yeah you are Luis right", She asked back.

"Correct, I guess everyone told you", I said.

"Yes and I saw your name tag on the floor so I had to bring it to you", She said as she smiled.

"Oh how did that get there", I said as I laughed.

"Wel I better get going now", She said as she waved goodbye.

"Ok then bye", I said as I watched her walk out of the school.

"I was thinking we should build some kind of device that would alert us when a robot is nearby", Stephen said from behind as he walked up to me.

"You still think Jessica is a robot", I asked him as I laughed.

"Yes and if they are using ashes made by you it probably means there'd at least be a string of clothing left and a bit of your DNA on it, which they could use to track you", He said quickly.

"Wow that's the longest string of smarts you've said under five seconds", I said as I laughed at him.

"But I guess you are right, but how would you build such a device, you would need a highly intelligent AI for that and I'm sure you don't know how to build one", I concurred.

"You are forgetting I was overall best in our summer computer engineering camp and I have my dad's book of uncompleted inventions", He said as he tapped my head.

"Yeah you were the only one that paid attention to that", I said as we walked out of school and stepped into an AST.

I got home and immediately put on my disguise and went to the lady's house.

"Hello is anyone here", I said after knocking on her door.

"Coming", she said as she opened the door.

"Hey remember me I'm the guy that saved you some days ago", I said.

"Oh you are that guy with the gadgets and everything that saved me that day thank you again", She said as she made a gesture that meant I should come in.

"Gadgets? I assure you they aren't gadgets, they were real superpowers", I said as I walked in.

"Hah, how's that even possible no human could have superpowaaaa", she dragged as she saw something she hadn't probably seen before. A person's hand on fire and it ain't burning.

"Wait your hand", She said as she took a step back.

"I told you they were real superpowers", I said as I put off the fire.

"Woah, I can't believe I met a real life superhero ", She said with a weird look on her face.

"I can also assure you that I am not a superhero, I just helped you that day", I said.

"Well you did save me that day and that's what superheroes do right", she said.

"Look that's not why I am here", I said changing the topic.

"Ok why are you here", She replied.

"I am here because I want to know who that guy was to you", I said.

"Who? the guy the robot copied ", she asked.

"Yes, the guy", I said.

"Well he was a very close friend of mine until I did something that ended up breaking our friendship, he didn't want to talk to me again and I was so distraught", she said.

"Wow that's bad, honestly I've gone through the same thing you're going through", I said as I remembered something from my past.

"I regret the day I did that", she said.

Then suddenly something hit me, thoughts that is. I suddenly remembered that Samantha also felt some sort of regret with regards Lucky although she never told me why I could sense she was feeling regretful about something and it had to do with Lucky.

"By the way, I'm Anne", she said.

"Nice to meet you Anne, I can't tell you my name though and I have to get going", I said.

"No worries I get it superhero confidentiality and all no problem", she said.

"I'm not a... you know what bye", I said as I stood up and walked towards the door.

"Bye thanks for coming", She said as the door closed automatically.

"Stephen", I said through our communicator.

"Yes, What did you get", He said.

"Regret", I said.

"Regret what oh you regret wearing that disguise and I warned you Y'know but you just had to go for a tight leggings and an oversized poncho", he said as he sounded completely ridiculous not that I was wearing an oversized poncho and leggings though you know what just keep on reading.

"No not that as in what's common is that the victims felt regret in some way", I said.

"You should have said so earlier, now I feel bad about that poncho"
