Chapter 004 - Jason

I introduced myself. I stuck my hand out so that she could shake it. Her skin was disgusting, as was the skin of all Enabled. I couldn't help but smile to hide the hatred I felt.

I was unlike any other student.

Next I stuck my hand out to the other one, John, but he refused to take it.

HE refused ME? The little shit. It should be a privilege for someone so beneath me to get the opportunity to touch my skin. For a moment, I wanted to kill him, then and there. Before I could do anything, the one named Evie stepped in.

"John, what the hell? Is it another vision?"

Vision? Clairvoyance? Future sight? No. Whatever it was, it served too much of a threat to my cause. He had to die. How could someone like him, just another beast among the ranks of the Enabled, think that he is worthy of being a nuisance to ME? I grit my teeth hard enough to chip them. Calm down, calm down.

"It was great meeting you guys, we should exchange numbers!" The enthusiasm that I had to force was almost too much to bear. Evie gave me her number, but yet again, John just stood there. Fine. He would die a painful death another day. I walked off, pissed.

I took the time to observe the other students of the school farther, maybe even find a target. While both Evie and John had powers that would be useful to me, killing someone too close to me would give it away.

I activated my ability.

Just as I expected, the Enabled were no more than animals. There were three fights that I could see, all of which started less than ten minutes into the day. The first one involved two sophomores, both of which stood around five feet and eleven inches tall, with a average build. One of them was able to coat his hands in some type of energy, allowing him to not only hit harder, but also block stronger attacks, such as the ones from the other sophomore, who summoned large whips that he could control without using his hands.

Another fight. Three students. Two were low ranking freshman, and one was a junior, who most likely had a strong ability given his age and the fact he was winning a two on one. As I've mentioned before, society works on rankings. Two freshmen without strong abilities would be treated just like the bottom feeders they are. The attacker sent powerful bursts of wind at them, fast and sharp. Of the freshmen, one seemed rather capable, as he was able to change a majority of his skin to durable metal, reflecting the wind with ease. The other was a shorter, less confident low ranker with a subpar ability. He generated balls of light in his hands, throwing them to create small, makeshift flash bangs. This was a promising group. I made sure to take note of their appearances for later use.

The final fight. It was another one on one, this time, it was someone I already knew. It was Evie and another girl, who was rapidly growing her hair like vines to wrap around Evie, who was using her ability to get closer to her opponent, only to get launched away right after. Now was my time. I ran through the hallway, nearly slamming into a group of seniors. One of them shot a projectile at me, but I kept running. They were on the second floor, near the girls bathroom. I expertly dashed up the stairs, two at a time. I rounded the corner, coming to a halt just behind a wall next to the fight. The girl who had attacked Evie was making hand gestures toward the places her hair attacked. Good, it wasn't sentient. I would have one chance to attack her from behind, using both my muscular strength and my ability's strength to knock her unconscious. Just as I was about to attack, she shot her hair forward again, this time successfully making contact and ensnaring Evie, wrapping tighter and tighter around her. She let out a squeak, like that of a dying rodent. While I was hoping to be the one to kill her, I couldn't help but consider letting her finish the job for me. Unfortunately, that might make my life a little too difficult. I dashed around the corner, stopping right behind the girl. Then I threw all of my weight into an overhand strong enough to kill a normal person, maybe that's what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, some of the hair seemed to have an automatic defense. It moved itself to cushion some of the blow, but I still made connection.

Crack. I followed through on the overhand, twisting my whole body as my fist pushed her face into the floor with a sickening crunch. Instantly her hair returned to its natural state, releasing Evie and shortening itself.

"Woah! That was awesome, Jason!" While she would soon be dead, I couldn't help but accept her praise, as I was quite spectacular.

"It's nothing really, just wanted to help out a friend." I wanted to leave out as many details as possible, hoping she wouldn't pry.

Just then, the bell rang.

"Oh shit! I've gotta go, but I'll talk to you later. Thanks for saving me!" She ran off, attempting to get to class without being marked late.

I turned to the still unconscious body of the girl laying next to me. Because of her shit, I would be late on my first day. At this point, I might as well skip class all together. Time to teach this bitch a lesson. Peering through the nearby walls, made sure the coast was clear before I picked her up and carried her to the single person bathroom located on the other end of the floor.
