Chapter 003 - Evie

What a morning!

For the first day at the Mellinger High school, we had to wake up an hour earlier than everyone else for orientation. I thought it was just because the orientation would take so long, but the Headmaster took 25 minutes just to arrive! Two students fought, and the girl totally kicked ass! The guy got what was coming to him though, he said such nasty things and even knocked her phone out of her hand! Anyways, after that, we went around the school and then reached our classroom, which supposedly has people who all have similar ability rankings to me. I tried to mingle, but everyone was so out of touch that it was hard to talk to any of them. Fortunately, I still have John, who I've been friends with since middle school. I decided I would just talk to him for the rest of homeroom.

"So what's the verdict?" I asked.

"I like some of them, but I don't think I could hang out with them outside of school." John tugged on his tie absentmindedly.

"Yeah, same here. The only person I'm interested in is that girl from this morning."

"The one from the fight?" John looked a little nervous and tilted his head down as he said it. "She's kind of scary, don't you think?"

"Please, you're only saying that because she'd kick your ass." For the first time all morning, I laughed a little bit.

"I- W-what?"

"Lost for words?" I smirked a little bit as he stuttered.

Just then, I saw him. He was handsome, with medium length brown hair and deep, brown eyes. He walked towards us, brimming with confidence.

"John, get your shit together, he's coming straight towards us!" I straightened my school uniform as John did the same.

"Hi, I'm Jason. It's great to meet you." He stuck out his hand for a shake, and when I say his skin was perfect, I mean PERFECT. He was unlike any other student, his smile wasn't hiding any hate or bad intentions, and his eyes were full of nothing but kindness. He then stuck his hand out to John, who introduced himself but refused to shake.

"John, what the hell?" He was never like this, even when his ability acted up. "Is it another vision?"

"I don't- I don't know." John looked embarrassed and took Jason's handshake.

"Vision?" Jason looked curious.

"Yeah, it's my ability. Sometimes I get glances of things that might happen in the future, and you look familiar to someone in one I had a long time ago."

Maybe I imagined it, but Jason's face had a look of nothing less than a deep anger, if only for a moment.

"How about you?" Jason looked at me and I couldn't help but blush a little.

"My ability is to teleport short distances instantly, and I can even keep any of the momentum I get, as though I've been thrown to the new spot."

We continued to chat for a while until classes were about to begin.

"It was great talking to you two, we should exchange numbers!" Jason have a warm smile and directed his phone to me. I put my contact into his phone and he did the same with mine.

"I'll see you guys later!" Jason went down the hall with a big grin on his face.

"That wasn't all that bad, was it, you big baby?" I turned to look at John, who looked like he had just seen a ghost. Another vision? They're bullshit half the time anyway, he'll forget about it by lunch.

He didn't respond.

"I'm going to class, I'll see you soon, okay?"

Nothing.

I walked off, leaving him there to think. Maybe if I caught up with Jason, I could walk to class with him.
