"Genre? what's that?"

They all watched in silence for some time. All of a sudden, Adelia swooned, "Ooh! It's the confession scene! That's so romantic!"

Charles and Grace were on a boat. She looked a little hesitant in front of her superior, but still, her eyes twinkled as she glanced at the sea, a light breeze blowing through her hair.

"Do you like the sea?" Charles asked, a soft smile covering his face.

"Yes," she said softly. "It reminds me of my mother."

"Your mother must be an amazing woman to have raised such a young lady like you," he looked at her. "You must take me to greet aunt sometimes, alright? I'd love to get to know your family more."

"I- I can't, I'm sorry..."

"Miss Grace, no need to be so shy. After all, aren't we friends? We... We are friends, right?"

"Yes, of course, but my mom- She..." The female lead looked down, not saying anything.

"Is the male lead stupid or something?" Adelia cried, "Charles, are you freaking brain dead?"

Charlie, who somehow unconsciously started associating himself with Charles since blondie compared himself with Caden, took that as a personal offense. "What, idiot? What are you uselessly yelling for?"

Adelia replied dramatically, "What am I talking about? This guy is just stupid! The way she said it, it's obvious her mother is dead! He's reminding her of bad memories, for god's sake!"

Claude, who was just looking for something against Charles, added quickly, "Yes, yes! That's incredibly insensitive of him! As I thought, only Caden can be suitable for her- "

"She's in prison for killing my dad and trying to kill me."

"...?" All four of them stared at the screen in disbelief. Well, that took an unexpected turn. Wasn't this supposed to be a romcom? Why's it looking like a thriller now?

The male lead was also shocked as he stood there, at a loss of words. Finally, he uttered, "...I'm sorry to hear that."

"No, it's alright. She tried to drown me; you know? That's the reason why I always get reminded of her at the sea. Anyway, my mother was in a cult. Like a real one."

Without waiting for his response, Grace continued, "They worshiped some sort of ancient god or something. Said there was going to be a doomsday and all non-believers would die, but those who died before it would go to heaven. My mother, who was completely brainwashed, believed what they said without a second thought. She actually tried to make mine and dad's life better in her own way since we refused to take part in it all from her perspective, you know?"

"-Complete bull crap. Their beliefs, I mean. See, isn't the world alright? Idiots believing some long dead god would randomly rise one day and destroy the world."

She was now more comfortable and didn't speak in the formal voice like before. Usually, after knowing about her mother, people become skeptical of her and left. Since Charles was still there, he must have really wanted to be her friend and somehow, she wasn't afraid to show him the real her.

The story seemed to get somewhat back on track as Charles looked at the rational woman in front of him. He couldn't help but wonder how someone can be so calm in such a situation, not hating their mother after all that. She really was an amazing woman who didn't believe in stupid things-

"Anyway, if something's going to destroy this over glorified ball of water and dirt, it's got to be aliens. I wonder if there are already aliens among us, extracting information about humans to prepare for their grand attack?"

"...?" They seemed to have been confused a little too much in this single scene. What's up with the genre switch at random?!
