"Drake."
I hear my name as a silent but commanding whisper, but what surrounds me is complete darkness.
"Yeah?"
"Who's there?"
I walk around the dark room but yet I see no one. I can't tell where I am.
All just seems lost cause all I feel is the empty void surrounding me.
"Drake."
At the sound of my name, I turn around, my fear and confusion imposing my every movement.
"Who are you and what do you want from me?" I shout back into the void.
"I want..."
The voice comes out more ragged and animalistic this time.
I'm able to pinpoint the direction of the mysterious voice as I turn my head toward it.
"...Control."
What I see mortifies me.
A beast leaps out of the darkness growling, aiming straight for me. Its killing intent turns me pale white as I close my eyes and scream into the void.
I open it the next second and immediately notice that I'm in my room.
I'm drenched in sweat as I place my hands on my head.
"It's just another nightmare, it's just another nightmare..." I repeat to myself trying to pull my mind out of the hell I was just in.
This was the fourth night in a week and it was always the same morbid dream.
I kept the dreams to myself as I thought they were a result of the wolf event but each night my dreams got worse and more detailed.
This one felt so real like I was there.
I sigh to myself.
"Wait, something's wrong," I think to myself.
Someone else was here, in my bedroom.
I could tell by the lovely scent hovering around my room. I don't know how I could I just knew I could.
I get off my bed and follow the scent cautiously. It goes through my window and out into the woods.
"Weird..." I say to myself.
"Must have been a squirrel."
My mind seemed to just accept that it was a squirrel so I decided to go downstairs to grab myself a cup of caffeine.
There was no way I was going back to bed. I can't risk going back to that dark hell hole.
I walk into my kitchen and head straight for my cup holder.
"Hey handsome"
Out of fear, my instincts kick in and I rush for a kitchen knife as I hear a feminine voice coming from my living room.
"Sleep well?"
Wait I know this voice, except this time it sounded different.
I see a shadowy figure leaning on the wall as I head for the light switch.
I turn it on and immediately, the first thing that struck me was her eyes.
They were blue.
And there's only one girl I knew in this town with eyes as blue as the sea.
"Not gonna say Hi,..."
The girl I met in school.
"...Mate"
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
"Not gonna say Hi?" She says after a minute of silence.
"What are you doing in my house?" I reply almost immediately.
"Oh come on, that's not how you treat a beautiful lady," She says back with a smirk on her face.
I couldn't quite make up what she was thinking. Her expressions were void and I'm not gonna lie it did scare me a bit.
"That's not what I asked," I say back trying to sound as intimidating as possible. I have nothing of so much value that's worth stealing in my house. So what she was doing here confused me.
"Okay this is obviously not working, why don't we try something else." She sighed.
"My name is Yelena, and I'm your mate"
"Oh sorry, I already got two mates I'm not looking for a third" I reply to her. She must be one of those psycho girls I've heard of breaking into people's apartments whenever they break down.
She bursts into laughter at my statement leaving me more confused than I was before.
"What do you mean you got two mates?" She said still trying to gather herself from what she just heard me say.
"The Moon goddess Selene only gives us one, dumbass," she said smiling.
"Goddess?"
"Who's that supposed to be?" I asked now absolutely lost and confused.
"Oh, yeah I forgot you were only human till that night" she replies.
"Haven't you noticed the changes in your body? Your senses are getting sharper. You're faster, Stronger, Smarter." She says as she slumps onto a couch.
She was right.
I have been seeing things on a different level. I do feel stronger. But how does she know this?
"How do you know?" I ask her
"Bingo! There's the million dollar question." She says with a smirk.
I never knew what the words dangerously beautiful meant till now.
That smirk gave me both I want her and I want to stay away from her vibes.
"We..." She points at me
"...are the same."
"What do you mean by that?" I reply, my curiosity getting the best of me.
"We are what humans refer to as Loup Garou." She replies
"Loup Garou?" I asked confused at the new word or term.
"Werewolf." She replies almost immediately
Werewolf?
What does she mean by werewolf? She's a Werewolf? This obviously has to be some kind of joke.
"Ha ha very funny, we all know Werewolves are just myths," I say, sarcasm obvious in my tone.
"Well you saw me that night in the woods. Do you think I'm a myth?". She asks me.
Wait how does she know about that night? Unless...
No, it can't be.
There's no way.
"Zack put you up to this didn't he? He told you about that night and decided to pull this whole prank didn't he?"
"Nope, I know 'cause I was the wolf that bit you." She says this time with a bit of concern on her face.
Wait, it wasn't on her face. I felt it. I felt her. Her emotions.
I immediately start to feel a tingly sensation on my shoulder where I was bitten. I immediately looked at it and saw that the marks were back. But how. That morning I woke up they were completely gone.
"Took it long enough," Yelena says snapping me back to my warped reality.
She pulls herself up from the couch, takes a step towards me and I immediately take a step back. My legs end up hitting a couch and I fall on it.
She then leans in slowly.
Heaven knows if I didn't think she was crazy my hormones would be going crazy right now. Well they were, I was just too scared to notice it.
She leans in so close until there's nothing but an inch of distance between us.
"Once again, My name is Yelena and I am your mate."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
There it was again. What does she mean when she says I'm her mate?
"So you want to be my friend or something?" I ask.
Once again I felt a bit of her emotion. This time it was disappointment.
She sighed as she pulled herself back up.
"Don't you watch Fictional movies?" She asks me, this time the disappointment clear on her face.
"I do but I've not been a fan of the horror genre," I reply.
"Well, you better be 'cause your life is about to become one." She says again with that breathtaking smirk of hers.
Before I can say anything she continues.
"Mates are two wolves destined to be together by the Moon Goddess Selena, apparently she made you mine and me yours."
"We're basically two halves of a piece" She continues.
"You're mine?" I say smiling for the first time this night as I cross my arms.
"Not yet. We've only completed half of the mating ritual. " She says walking back to her previous couch.
"Ritual?" I ask, once again in a state of limbolic confusion.
"Not something you need to worry about now." She replies.
"What you need to know for now is that you need me just as much as I need you."
"That's weird, I don't remember ever needing you for anything," I say back to her.
"Damn you really are oblivious to this whole situation aren't you?" She sighs again. This time I don't need to tap into her emotion to know she's fed up with me.
How's she fed up with me?
I'm the one who just learned recently that I am a monster that's completely detested by humans. Heck, I'm not the Wikipedia for wolves' knowledge and culture.
"Well can you blame me?" I shoot back at her sarcastically.
She giggled a bit. "You're funny."
"New mates if separated for too long tend to go through nasty side effects. Take for example, your nightmares."
"Wait how do you know about-" I ask but she cuts me off almost immediately.
"We share emotions. I'm sure you've felt some of mine already." She replies
Yeah, she was telling the truth.
"So how are you supposed to help me?" I ask her.
She stands up from her couch once again and stretches her arms out like she's calling for a hug.
"Hug me and you'll find out" She smiles
I walk towards her cautiously just in case this was some sort of trap.
"Don't worry I won't bite" she called out to me as she noticed my behavior towards her request.
I frown at her immediately and she laughs and then says. "Okay fine I won't bite this time."
"This time?" I ask with my eyebrow raised.
"Oh just come here," she says as she walks across the room and pulls me into an embrace.
At first, I felt nothing but fear. Seconds later that fear was replaced with something else. I can't just wrap my head around it. I feel warm, I feel Calm.
I feel safe.
And before I knew it I was holding her back. I didn't want her to leave. I didn't want her to go anywhere but here. I didn't want to hear her say goodbye. I just want her with me.
Who is she to make me feel this way? I only just met her today. I know I've seen her in school and I did think that she was cute. But that's not enough to make me feel the way I do right now.
"Woah slow down there Tiger, I'm not going anywhere," she says dragging me out of my trance-like state.
"What is this feeling?" I ask her still not wanting to let go. I'm sure she didn't want to either.
"It's the mate bond. Well, at least half of it" She replies.
"It feels nice," I say, all forms of fear now completely extinguished in me.
"Do you see why you need me now?"
"You're mine and I'm yours not just by words but by a bond. Our bond is still new and fragile. If one of us is absent then we both have to deal with damages." She says all so gently, her previous wild self completely gone.
"Can you stay tonight, please?" I ask her not wanting to let go of this feeling.
"I was going to stay either way, not just tonight but for at least months. If we spend any more than a week apart within these few months one of us is going to die."
I did hear the word die but I was too enchanted by her to even bother about it.
Do I love her?
Not sure what I feel at the moment.
Am I going to love her?
Definitely yes.
She's got me whipped enough just by hugging me so I'm pretty sure loving her is something I can't avoid.
To be honest there are a lot of questions in my head.
What was she doing in the forest?
What's this werewolf crap about?
Am I truly a monster?
What is going to happen after now?
What exactly happened that night in the woods?
Why was there a dead body?
I'm sure like me you all are thinking the same thing.
But for now I will just let it be. I could always get answers to it all tomorrow.
For now I just desperately need to get some sleep with this girl in my arms.
"Wanna head upstairs," I ask her.
"Sure Mr handsome, lead the way" she replies teasingly.
"You know you can just call me Dray" I smirk back at her.
"Yeah but where's the fun in that" she replies with a smirk of her own.
"Yelena seems too long, mind if I call you Lena?" I ask her.
"You're my mate you don't need to ask" she replies.
"Okay, how bout I call you princess," I say teasingly to her.
"Don't push your luck, call me that and I'll kill you myself." She says as she glares at me.
"Alright alright," I say, laughing out loud for the first time this night.
