Chapter 10: Criminals

“Of course I can speak,” I said quietly, staring down at the open car door. “Does Yujin know you’re taking me somewhere?”

Elliot tilted his head with an amused smile. “I don’t work for Yujin. I was told you’d be helping me today, and I find the office to be stifling.” He stepped around toward the driver side, leaving the door open. “But if you’d prefer to wait here until Sergio picks you up at four, you’re more than welcome to do that instead.”

I shrunk a little into the far corner of the seat, staring out the window to avoid any chance of eye contact as he pulled out of the garage and into morning traffic. “Did you grow up in this city?” He asked after a few slow blocks of silence.

I shook my head no, still staring out the window at nothing in particular.
