Chapter 39: How Does He Know?

“Calm down, woman! It’s just me!” Came Soren’s petrified voice. “Put the fire away before you burn the damn forest down!”

“I didn’t burn it down before.” Josie remarked sarcastically. “My precision has only gotten better with time.”

“Trust me, I don’t need another demonstration.” Soren sighed as he joined her by the water. “I’m still trying to forget the smell of burning chemicals. And flesh.”

“I’d say I’m sorry, but–”

“Yeah, I know.” Soren waved her off.

“Also, you got here pretty fast.” Josie arched her brow.

“Well, Molly decided to be fancy and magicked everything that could be salvaged. The rest of it didn't take me long to sweep or clean up.”

“And you left her alone with that maniac of a boyfriend of mine?” The panic returned to her voice.

“So much for that confidence in your power.” Soren chuckled. “That wolf is dead to the world and isn’t waking up until you give the word, you know that.”
