Where were you, Suzanne?

In the evening, Édouard left to see his mother in her chamber. He took a seat on the sofa chair after bowing to her and looked at his mother.

Anneliese gestured to Lady Emma, who walked out of the door and quietly closed it.

"Will Mother tell me the truth?" He sounded as if he was taking the permission of his mother, wondering if she was comfortable sharing the past with him.

"Prince Philip liked me for a long time, but I was into your father. There was tension between two brothers because of me and that was the main reason why your father used to be angry with me. He used to think I had something with Prince Philip when it was not the truth. My loyalty is bound to your father and will always be." Anneliese's watery eyes ached Édouard's heart. His mother got humiliated by his father because Prince Philip liked her.

"Did Mother never get the thought of leaving a man who never trusted her?" Édouard asked.
