Chapter Twenty Four

After the meeting, Sally and Neil had agreed to head straight to the Music Box. They were already dressed for the evening, so they went straight there. She was silent the entire ride. Neil wasn’t sure whether or not Sally was contemplating their decisions, thinking over her plan, or coming up with more ideas. Neil certainly had some thinking to do.

The rain mostly filled their silent drive, the patter of it against the windshield making a nice sound. Neil always loved the sound of rain. It meant new life, new growth. It had washed away so much spilled blood during the war. It rained a lot while he was in the sanitarium. The grass was such a luscious green, thick and full and lively with flowers to top it off. The smell of it reminded him of being a boy, and playing in the rain with Carlton.

He needed to change the subject before he went down a dark path, and had a repeat episode of a few weeks ago. He cleared his throat, and shifted in his seat.
