CHAPTER 14: Candlelit Dinner

  [Eli’s POV]

The table in front of me was set with all the finest dishes. Since Moyra wouldn't be able to see the scene, I focused on titillating her sense of smell. I hoped that it would at least make her smile if I did a little something special for her.

Despite telling myself this was no big deal, I was nervous. When was the last time I felt anything for a woman? Five… maybe six years? Since Eva's death, my heart had been cold as ice, and this was the first time that anyone had made it beat.

As I tried to calm myself, the door to the dining room opened and inside she walked.

Though she was dazzling before, she was much more alluring in the silver dress that hugged her curves and dipped just enough to give a glimpse of her cleavage.

"Eli?" She murmured hesitantly. "Am I late?"

I opened my mouth to respond, only to find that words wouldn't come. Her beauty had left me speechless.

"Eli?" As my name left her lips, she began to fidget in discomfort.
