CHAPTER Sixty-one

  Ryland

I was dreading tonight’s dinner and meeting my mom’s new boyfriend. I swear he better not be a complete dick. If he is, I will be saying a few things. I am not letting another man take advantage of my mother or hurt her. I had allowed that to happen too many times before. Yes, I wanted her to be happy, she deserved to be happy, and hopefully, Jack wasn’t an asshole like the men from her past. His son, Brian, better not be a dick either.

With what my mom has told us about him, she seemed happy, but that didn’t mean he was one of the good guys, which I would be able to tell the moment I met him. Over the years I have picked up this very useful skill of knowing when someone was not a good person. I hoped I wouldn't need to use said skill this time; I truly hoped my mom was right and he was a decent man.

“Ryland, will you please relax” Gracie said, resting her head on my knee as we made our way over to the house.
