Untamed Desire: Part XXI

INDIGO'S P.O.V.

-We should kill him!-

~Not now, Shadow!~

-He hurt our mate and we are doing nothing about it! I can still smell his wretched scent in the air! We can track him down and rip out his throat!-

~Do you think I don't want to kill him just as much as you!? Lilyanna needs us right now, Shadow. She's hurt and doesn't have anyone here to protect her. Her safety comes first, and if I'm right about her ex it's only gonna be a matter of time before he comes back. So this time I'm gonna make sure that we're here when he does.~

-Why wait!? Can't we just kill him now? It will still keep Lily safe and it will stop him from ever coming back for her.-

~Then what happens after we kill him, Shadow? We are trying not to draw humans' attention to our species' existence. Did you forget? We don't need to get any hunters involved. ~

-Screw the hunters! Let them come and find us! I'll tear each one of them apart if it means that Lily doesn't get hurt again by that bastard!-

~And what do you think the hunters would do if they found out that Lilyanna was a werewolf's mate!? Do you think they would treat her all sunshine and rainbows just because she is human? To them, we are nothing but ravenous beasts that murder thousands of innocent human lives! They would kill Lily just for associating herself with a wolf! To them, we are no different than a cursed lycan! ~

-So we sit here and do nothing!? While he just roams around free!?-

~Yes!~

"Sir?"

-This is stupid! I can't believe that you're willing to use our mate as bait and allow that man to get away with what he did to her!-

~We will only put her in more danger if we kill him. Yet you wouldn't know that because you are just a stupid dog!~

-At least I'm willing to stop her attacker while you prefer to cower away in a damn corner!-

"Sir?"

~Shut the hell up, Shadow! You don't know what the fuck you're talking about!~

-Make me!-

"Sir!" I jerked as I regained focus on the room around me. I had almost forgotten that I was in the hospital's waiting room. I looked up at the nurse who was staring at me wide-eyed.

"Are you okay, Sir?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Sorry about that, I must have spaced out."

~Asshole.~

-Shut the fuck up, Shadow.-

"Are you by chance Indigo?"

"Yes, that's me."

"Perfect, Ms. White is ready to be discharged as she stated that you could help you."

"Of course."

"Great, follow me then." I stood up from the hospital chair, my back aching from being in the same position for hours. I followed the nurse down a series of long corridors until they brought me to one of the emergency patient rooms. The nurse politely knocked before opening the sliding glass door and pulling back the curtain. Lily was already up grabbing her things into a hospital bag.

"Ms. White, we brought Indigo to help discharge you from the hospital. Do you have a safe place to stay for the night?"

"I don't know, I'll figure it out though."

"Okay, but if you need a place to stay you can always seek refuge at the local women's shelter. Their information should be on the pamphlet we gave you earlier."

"Thank you, but like I said before I won't need it."

"I understand."

"Nurse?"

"Yes?"

"Is there any way I can see my friend Una? I just want to check on her."

"I'm sorry Ms. White but I'm afraid you can't see her until visiting hours tomorrow. As the doctor and I said before, we will do everything we can to make sure she is fine. We just need to keep her overnight just in case the swelling of her brain gets worse."

Lilyanna looked to the ground and sighed.

"Are you certain she's going to be okay?"

"We are going to do everything in our power to help her. What you need to do now is get some rest."

"Okay…"

"Lily." Her eyes gazed up at me as I softly spoke her name. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah, I just have to grab one more thing."

"Sure, I'll be right here when you're ready to go."

"Don't forget your discharge papers Ms. White and come back if you experience any more issues."

"I will, thank you." Lily nodded as she put the papers in the bag along with a prescription note from the doctor. She strode past the bed and stood in front of me, her eyes were weary and tired. As I looked down at her my eyes caught glimpses of the bruises left on her neck. I became filled with sadness and rage as I studied where he touched her.

-The next time I see him he is a dead man!-

I took a deep breath as I shied away from her bruises, taking a moment to calm down and not let Shadow gain control.

"Are you okay, Indy?" I looked up into her sad silver eyes and at that moment my chest tightened.

~She went through all that pain, yet she still asks me if I'm okay.~

"I'm fine, waterlily. But what about you? Are you okay?" A single tear formed under her eye reflecting the silver of her iris.

"No," she whispered under her breath.

"Come on, let's get you out of here."

"That sounds like a great idea."

I walked Lily to the waiting room and asked her to sit down for a moment. She nodded and we both sat right next to each other, trying to ignore the others waiting to see a doctor

"Sorry for asking you to sit but I thought it would be good to know where I'm taking you."

"Shit, you're right. To be honest, I haven't thought that far." she faintly chuckled.

"I would ask if you want to sleep on my couch but I have a feeling that you would like that idea."'

"Yeah… do you by chance have your phone on you?"

"I do, did you want to call someone?"

"Yeah, my Aunt. She recently just got a place up here. I'm sure she'll let me crash at her place until everything settles down."

"That sounds like a great idea. Here." I placed my phone in her hand making sure that the dial pad was already opened. She took a moment to dial her Aunt's phone number: the murmur of the phone ringing wafted in the air. When her Aunt picked up Lily started to explain everything that happened. The hospital visit, the questioning from the police… her ex. I could hear the muffled shrill from her Aunt as she started talking a million miles per hour. Before long Lily managed to calm her down and said goodbye before hanging up the phone.

"My Aunt is on her way," She peered back at me and returned my phone, "Thank you, for your help."

"Of course, anytime." We waited until Lily stood up and greeted a woman in her pajamas and her messy blonde hair up in a bun. I immediately recognized this woman as the one Lily was having dinner with at Tommy's diner.

"Oh my goodness, Lily. Are you okay?" She embraced Lily in a tight hug as tears fell from the woman's eyes.

"I'm okay Aunty, promise." Her Aunt looked up from their embrace and glanced toward my chair.

"Honey, who's this?"

"Oh," Lily backed away and turned toward my direction, "This is Indigo, he is the one who found me in my apartment and called the police."

"He found you in your apartment? What was he doing there?"

"Well… umm… he was… umm…"

"Please allow me to explain," I stood up from my seat, "I wanted to check up on Lily because she was acting strangely during class. She was on edge and seemed nervous about something which had me concerned. So I decided to stop by and make sure everything was alright. When I noticed that her apartment door was wide open I called the police and ran inside where I found Lily zip-tied on the floor. Hopefully, that explains things a bit better."

"It does," She stepped forward and hugged me as well, her grip was tighter than I expected. "Thank you for taking such good care of my little lily flower."

"It's nothing, ma'am." She let go of our embrace and gently squeezed my arm as she looked into my eyes. As I stared into hers I saw the familiar silver eyes that Lilyanna also shared but as I looked deeper I saw something else. It was like I was staring into the night sky that was bathed in silver light. It was strange yet beautiful, I've never seen eyes quite like hers. I quickly snapped out of the trance realizing how awkward it must look to Lily.

-Something is not right.-

~What are you talking about?~

-Something isn't right about her. She smells human but there's something about her that I can't put my nose on.-

~What could possibly be wrong with Lily's Aunt?~

-I don't know, but I get the feeling that there is more to her than meets the eye.-

"Well, it was nice meeting you, Indigo."

"It was nice meeting you too, ma'am."

"Come, Lily, darling, we should head back to my place. You've had a very stressful couple of weeks."

"You're right about that," she chuckled and turned to me. "Bye Indigo, I'll see you in class."

"See you in class." I waved back and watched as she got into her Aunt's car and drove off.

~I should keep an eye on her. Just to make sure she remains safe.~
