Meeting Mary's Cousin

Mary saw the absent-minded look on George's face and was afraid that he would mess things up. She was about to ask him to do something, but when she looked up, she saw her cousin walking in.

"Hey, over here," she stood up and waved happily.

"Mary!" Her cousin waved back at her with a smile.

"Why did you take so long? Didn't we say that you would be here in half an hour?" Mary said, teasingly. "You made me wait for so long. And how are you going to repay me?"

"Oh my dear Mary." She said with a smile, leaning over to kiss Mary's cheek. "After we're gone here, I'll take you clothes shopping." She looked down and saw George still sitting at the table. "And have you found the person that I'm looking for then?"

"Yes. I told you that I'll find someone for you." Mary giggled and pointed at George. "I guarantee that you'll be happy with him. What do you think? Does he fit the bill?"

Not giving her cousin a chance to respond, Mary reached down to pull George to his feet. "George, this is my cousin Sophia. Come and say hello."

George raised his head casually. When he saw Sophia, he couldn't help but be stunned. She was beautiful. Just a little shorter than he was. She had wavy hair and red lips. She wore a long, red dress, but he could still see her legs through the sheer fabric of the dress. She seemed a little familiar to George though, as if he had seen her somewhere before.

"Hello," he said.

Sophia just politely nodded to him in greeting. She pulled Mary to the side and whispered a few words in her ear before returning and taking a seat. Mary sat next to her. When Sophia met George's gaze and saw his face close up, she was stunned. "Is it him?" She couldn't believe her eyes. "Can it be?" She was so excited that she wanted to shout out. Her entire body began to tremble a little.

"Sophia what's wrong?" Mary asked curiously, feeling that something was amiss with her cousin.

"It's fine. It's fine. Mary, is this your classmate or your friend?" Sophia replied as she forced a calm expression on her face.

"Oh yes. Let me introduce you properly."

Mary had almost forgotten about that part. She first pointed at George and said, "He's from Harrison U, like me. And we're in the same class. His name is George. He's pretty nice, but he has amazing luck. You wouldn't believe it. But a few days ago he won $50,000 and he took the whole class out for an expensive meal at the Palace Garden."

With that she gave George a wink indicating that he should take the initiative to continue chatting. At that moment though, George was too busy trying to recall where he had seen Sophia before. And he didn't notice Mary's expression.

After waiting a while, and George not saying anything, Mary waved her hand in front of his face. She had realized that he was lost in thought.

"Uh, hello. Earth to George. What are you doing? Why aren't you even greeting my cousin? You're here to help, not just have a free drink and sit there in a daze." She was speechless after that. She just rolled her eyes and grumbled impatiently. She was starting to regret asking George for help.

"Mary?" Sophia had a displeased look on her face.

It seemed to Mary that she was being blamed for making her cousin unhappy. Mary was puzzled. "Why should she be angry at me though? She's barely even said a word to George. Maybe she's just scared that he's going to run away and we'll have to find someone else to go through with her plan."

She decided to try again with a little more polite approach this time, "Uh, George, this is my cousin Sophia. Don't you see how pretty she is. I invited you here just to help her out. Don't think you can take the chance to hit on her. I can tell you she's not only good-looking, but she also has a good job." She felt that she was starting to nag him, so she shut up.

"A good job? How good could it be?" George smiled as he spoke. "The key thing is that a person's character must also be good."

He had thought about it for a long while. And finally he realized that he had seen Sophia at the bank one time, but it was only a fleeting glance. At that time, he had seen this beautiful woman about to step forward to help someone. But then the customer had turned around and walked away as if he hadn't seen her.

"George, what do you mean? Are you mocking my cousin? Have you seen her? What right do you have to say that about her?" When Mary saw George's smile, she felt a deep sense of malice and so spoke with a nasty tone to her voice.

"Mary, stop it." Sophia was getting anxious.

"Don't get me wrong. I mean, your cousin's job is good and her character is good." George didn't want to get entangled in another mess. So he tried to explain what he meant. In the end, he only managed to offend Mary even more.

"He's actually daring to criticize Sophia's bad character." She thought horrified. "He's truly an annoying little idiot."

"George, you've gone too far." She angrily threw her coffee in his face.

Sophia couldn't hold in her anger at this. She picked up George's orange juice and tipped it over Mary's head.

"What kind of person is he?" Sophia wondered. "He's super rich with a black card and an unimaginably high status. And yet he's here. Supposedly a popper."

Of course, she had recognized George as soon as she had got up close to him. After George had first taken money out of his new bank account, the bank manager immediately sent a message to all staff at the branch. It showed George's photo and listed his identity. Among the text, there was an instruction. All staff of the bank must remember his face. When they saw him in the future, they must treat him with respect. He was not only rich, but was also from an extremely powerful family.

Ever since she had found out George's real identity, Sophia had been looking forward to seeing him again. She held fanciful ideas in her head. And as a result, she didn't like any of the suitors that her parents tried to set her up with. That was why she had been forced to find someone, to be her fake boyfriend and end the matchmaking once and for all. She could never have predicted that George would end up being that fake boyfriend. The heavens must really be helping her. If she could build a relationship with George and they could become a true couple, that would mean that Cinderella would marry the prince, become a princess, and from then on lead an extraordinary life in a wealthy family.

This meeting could change the course of her entire life. Therefore, she absolutely couldn't tolerate anyone destroying her opportunity, not even Marry who she had a good relationship with. She had already warned Mary about her attitude toward George. She didn't expect him to be so rude to him after that.
