Slashing Left and Right

'This is stupid.' He gritted his teeth. Obviously, he didn't know any of these people, so why would he risk his life for them? But looking at this scene, deep inside he understood that now it is about the survival of humanity. Only if people resisted with all their might, humanity could survive.

'I hope I don't regret this.' He calmed his wildly beating heart and rushed toward the closest person he could see. It was a young girl who was being chased by a demon. She ran with all the speed she could muster, but the demon's speed was simply monstrous. In a few moments, it caught up to the girl and hit jumped onto her, pinning the girl to the ground.

Tears welled up in the girl's eyes as an expression of utter terror appeared on her face. She did not scream but sobbed quietly as the demon opened its maw and trained its sharp teeth on her neck. As it prepared to rip her neck in two, a whistling sound pierced through the air.

Suddenly, the demon's head detached from its body and fell beside staining everything around in black blood.

The girl opened her eyes as she felt hot blood stain her skin. She pushed the limp body off of her and looked toward her savior. It was Alexander.

"Find a safe place for you to hide." He said coldly and turned around, looking for the next closest person in trouble.

"No way! I'm coming with you!" The girl quickly got up on her legs and ran after Alexander.

In a little bit under ten seconds, he was already almost a hundred meters away, slashing at a mutated cat that was leaping towards another student.

Ssssh!

The mutated beast's head detached immediately and two pieces of the monster fell limply on the ground splattering blood everywhere.

The student looked dazed for a moment, then stuttered "T-thank you.." as tears flowed down her cheeks. The first girl quickly helped her up.

"You're welcome. Find yourselves a place to hide." He replied nonchalantly.

"We'll go with you! If these monsters find us, we won't be able to fight back!" The first girl dragged the still sobbing second girl after Alexander.

At first, he was going to increase his speed to leave them behind, but then he suddenly thought about his friends. Felicia, Arthur, Nia. If someone left them behind like this, won't they be terrified?

Instead of rushing toward the next student with all his speed, he slowed down a little, making sure the girls were always within the range he could respond in. This way, he could continue moving and still save them if some monster decided to attack them. After all, what's the point of saving them just to abandon them to danger the next moment? He moved swiftly across the plaza, saving students on his way. The main mass of monsters still was some distance away from here, so he quickly cleaned up the vast majority of monsters in the closest vicinity. Of course, he wasn't all-powerful and some of the students still fell victim to mutants and demons.

Currently, Alexander was surrounded by a group of students, almost two dozen in number. It was all people he had saved. He looked all over them and asked:

"Is any of you able to explain what is going on here? Wasn't the area around those obelisks supposed to be safe?" He clearly felt that the obelisk that was calling to him was close, somewhere in direction of the main battlefield. It was definitely less than five hundred meters away. If not for a row of buildings and a wall, he would be able to directly see the place.

"I- I don't know. At first, it was safe here, but several hours ago all those monsters became restless. They gathered some distance away as if afraid of coming closer. But as their numbers grew, they came closer and closer from all directions, and at one moment, they all rushed in." A cute girl with brown hair and round glasses answered in a shaky voice.

A look of contemplation appeared on Alexander's face. He thought for a bit and asked:

"Do you know any safe buildings around here? No windows, sturdy doors, anything like that?"

A sporty-looking guy perked up.

"The gymnasium matches your description. The music hall as well, but the gymnasium has better facilities within it. But our best bet is to reach the military department. The students there are all trained in fighting, so it would be the safest place."

"That's the best option. Where is it?" Alexander asked excitedly.

The student didn't say anything and raised his arm to point in a direction. The direction of the main battle.

Alexander sighed and massaged the bridge of his nose as he felt a headache approaching. He was already tired after killing almost three dozen of monsters, if not more. The vast majority of those, however, were level one, so he wasn't able to get enough soul force for another level up. Currently, he was already feeling a bit tired. If he went to the main battle, how long could he continue fighting for?

"Alright, it seems that it is the best option we have anyway. However, I can't protect you guys while in the thick of the battle. It is simply impossible for me to babysit you. Find a safe place to hide and don't make any sounds. Wait for the battle to end and only then go out. If you are lucky, you'll be able to go to the military department right away."

"No, wait! Let us go with you!" The first girl he saved spoke up.

He looked at the students and hesitated for a moment. Then he spoke:

"If you guys want to follow me. You will have to listen to what I say. If you don't like it, you can go your way, it is relatively safe here for the moment, so it's your best chance to slip away."
