It was a miracle that the castle had calmed down from its own ritual by the time Josiah and I returned. Instead of putting him in his own room, I settled him in mine. It was a good distance away from Malik and having Josiah at least near my mother comforted me deeply.

I gently tucked him into my bed, smiling softly as he nuzzled gently against the pillows. I wasn’t going to lie, it hurt having to see him subjected to this one mass amount of magic at once. Even I could understand if things were moving too fast, but everyone knows the wicked never sleeps. If we were going to act, we had to act now—albeit carefully.

However, I knew I couldn’t force him to do anything when he needed his rest. It was one of the many things that made humans so different from the paranormal. Human bodies only held so much as means of stamina, that needed to be replenished every twelve to sixteen hours or so.
