The Fuss

I woke up earlier than Javan. I was sleeping on my left side with my right hand on his hairy chest and my leg on his. I quickly pulled away from him. Surprisingly, he held me and pulled me close to him. For the first time I took a closer look at his face. Oh my, he was so handsome. He was smiling with his eyes closed. I tailed my hands down his nose and touched his lips softly. He pulled me closer and kissed me. I felt so happy.

Javan: How do you feel?

I was happy and only smiled.

Javan: Good morning Dearest.

Ndale: I am glad I obeyed my father.

He chuckled happily.

Javan: Let's take a bath.

He carried me to the bathroom with the cover cloth dripping, literally wiping the floor. We took a cool bath, dressed up and went down to have breakfast. I asked him to go ahead and quickly changed the stained sheets. This was my first time letting someone into me. I washed the sheets with the help of the machine and asked Chloe to get me new sheets. She offered to lay the bed so I went down to have breakfast with Javan. We had yoghurt with nuts, french toast and Swiss omelet. I did not have the yoghurt since I was allergic to nuts. After eating we went to his study. I took my medicines and he offered me a candy.

Ndale: Thank you.

Javan:No problem.

Ndale: Can we go to school today?

Javan: No

Ndale: Oh

Javan: Come on we just got married.

Ndale: Yes but, this project is very important to me and I need to complete it as soon as possible. I wasted so much time in the coma.

Javan: Not today.

Ndale: When?

Javan: Next month.

Ndale: Next month? That is too far.

Javan: Next month is just seven days away from today.

Ndale: Yeah, great!

I said angrily and walked out.

Ndale: What does he expect me to be doing?

Unlike early on, I was happy but my mood turned sour after a brief conversation. I took a walk in the garden and it was quite refreshing. I had a long talk with one of the plants I loved most. Later on, I took a walk around the house getting lost in my imagination. I sat by the pool side listening to music and relaxing. At about noon, my stomach yearned to be fed. I walked to the dining table and as usual, I was late, Javan was waiting for me. We ate in awkward silence. After finishing my meal, I helped Chloe clear the table and went to the room. Javan walked in a while later.

Javan: What is with you?

Ndale: Nothing, just a bit dizzy.

I laid in bed and rested. Javan went to his study I guess. I took a warm bath after waking up and went down to eat. Chloe's meals were so delicious. Though I had slept early on, I went to bed early. The next day, I woke up with abdominal pains and headache and I just knew that it was that time of the month. You know the routine, bath, breakfast, medicines and blah, blah, blah. Sigh!

I refused to take my medicines because they could affect my smooth periodic flow.

Javan: Take your medicines.

Ndale: I can't, they would do more harm than good.

Javan: How?

Ndale: You would not understand.

Javan: Then make me.

Ndale: Please

Javan: Take the medicines immediately.

Ndale: Stop forcing me to do things I do not want.

Javan: Sorry but it is for your own good and what else did I force you to do?

Ndale: You do not let me go out. You won't let me go to the school and even now you want me to take these bitter medicines. Am I your prisoner? Why do I need your permission to do what I want? I am not a robot and I am not a child. You said you would make me happy but you only do what is best for you. You are so selfish. You don't care about how I feel. Everything is just overwhelming; I am only twenty and already married off. I didn't even get the chance to enjoy my youth completely. And...

He interrupted me.

Javan: What is wrong with you? I said I will take you to school in a week time. Take your medicines.

Ndale: No!

Javan: Why are you being difficult and saying all those things? I never forced you to marry me, remember? You made the decision so you will have to deal with it. What is your problem? We just got married, oh actually four days ago.

Ndale: Excuse me.

I said in attempt to leave, but Javan would not let me leave without taking the drugs; so strict. I was angry.

Javan: You will take the medicines before leaving.

Ndale: I need to take another medicine and I cannot mix it with these ones. Just let it be.

Javan: Are you now a doctor? Don't make me force you, just take them.

Ndale: Oh crap!

I said with much agitation. I just took the bottle and poured the rest of the pills into my mouth.

Javan: Spit them out. Do not swallow...

I just drank the water and swallowed dozens of the drug about twenty pills. Javan seemed very angry. He lifted me to his car and drove straight to the nearest hospital. Everything happened so quickly. I was rushed to the intensive care unit and in a matter of minutes, I blacked out.

I don't know how long I had been in there but Javan was not by my side when I woke up. I was discharged later in the evening. Chloe and the chauffeur took me home. I asked her about Javan, she said he would be with me soon. Javan walked in a while later; but just stood at a distance staring quietly, no stern look. I closed my eyes and asked Yah to help me because I knew I was at fault and had hurt him with all the things I had said.

After a while, I tried to sit up and he helped me. I broke the long silence. His stern look was back.

Ndale: I am sorry.

Javan: Didn't you think I would have understood? And what was the meaning of that? How can you just pour a whole bottle of medicines into your mouth? Were you trying to kill yourself?

Ndale: I am sorry. I was not thinking and I was irritated. You were also forcing me to take the medicines.

Javan: Yeah great! Now I am to blame. If you had said 'Javan it's that time of the month that is why I don't want to take them'... Blah, blah. Do you think I would have insisted on you taking them?

Ndale: I am sorry. How long have I been in the hospital?

Javan: Three days.

Ndale:Why didn't you come there?

Javan: Did you want me to?

I said nothing.

Javan: I have an idea. We've both obeyed our fathers, now there is a solution to the entire marriage bizzare.

Ndale: Marriage bizzare?

Javan: Yeah! I've got my lawyer to prepare the divorce papers, all you need to do is sign them and go back home. They asked us to get married and not to stay together forever. I have given it some thought and I believe this is what's best for us. I will be sleeping in another room, after the divorce I will send you back to the palace. Rest well Ndale.

He didn't even give me a chance to say anything and walked out. I felt sad and lonely. The next day I took my bath, dressed up and went down for breakfast. Javan had just finished his meal. He just walked past me without uttering a word. I ate very little and went to his office. I knocked on the door and he let me in.

Javan: How may I help you?

Ndale: Can we talk?

Javan: Sure, sit.

Ndale: Em...

Javan: Mhmmm.

He still had that stern look.

Ndale: I am sorry about everything I said and did that hurt you.

Javan: Apology accepted, is there any other thing you want to say because I am a bit busy.

Ndale: Well, thank you for everything and I will miss you.

He smiled, I smiled back and left his office. I wanted to tell him not to go through with the divorce but he was not so welcoming. I was hurt but what is done is done. I went to the room and packed my things. Javan walked in and hugged me.

Javan: Where do you think you are going?

Ndale: The,the palace.

Javan: No way, you are stuck with me forever. I love you so much. Let's forget about everything and just move on. If that's okay with you.

Ndale: I like you and I do not want a divorce.

We hugged each other closely in silence.

Ndale: Thank you for understanding.

Javan: It's the art of listening; listening is hearing the words that are not spoken. Well, you owe me one.

Ndale: Next time I will inform you.

Javan: That is not enough.

Ndale: And, and I will make it up to you tonight.

We both laughed. What a relief!
