CHAPTER 13: RESPONSIBILITIES.

While in class, the PA system called out for Sandra. She couldn't understand why the principal would be calling her to his office after spending just two days in Gilmore High. Nevertheless, she went to answer her call. She found her way to the principal's office then she knocked on the door. The voice from inside the room told her to come in. She did as he said.

"Sandra Sage, very nice to finally meet you." Principal Jobs said to her, wearing a warm smile on his face. Sandra couldn't understand what was going on so she decided to just go with the flow. "Thank you, principal Jobs." She said. He told her to have her seat as he wanted to discuss with her. "So, how has your stay been so far at GH?" He asked her.

"It's only been two days, but it was one hell of a two days," Sandra said under her breath. Mr Jobs couldn't hear her so he asked her to kindly repeat herself. "I said it was terrific! I love GH." Sandra lied. "Well, marvellous my dear." Mr Jobs said as he joined his hands together and smiled. Sandra knew he wanted to say something but he was holding back. Then she decided to say it herself, "I know my parents must have told you about what happened to me back in Junior school."

Immediately Mr Jobs heard her, he began to feel remorse for her. "I'm so sorry you had to go through that at such a tender age Sandra." Sandra quickly tried to change the topic, "It's in the past, and this is my present so... What was it you called me for again?"

"Yeah right, so your parents told me to keep an eye on you. To protect you, so you don't ever have to face anything like that ever again!" Mr Jobs assured her. "It's fine sir, I can handle myself. I was stupid and could easily get rolled over. That can't happen to me again or else I want it to happen. So there's no need to keep an eye on me. Thank you though for your efforts." Sandra said. She wanted to take her leave when she heard a knock on the door,

"Who's that?" She asked. She was surprised when she got to know who was behind the door. On the other hand, Mr Jobs was hesitant to let the person behind the door come in, having known that Sandra wasn't interested. But he came in anyways, it was Jesse Noriega! He came in and was stunned to see Sandra sitting in Mr Jobs's office. That was when it clicked to him.

Earlier, before his class, the principal had contacted him and told him that he needed him to guide a new student. He couldn't believe it was Sandra Sage. He was delighted when he found out that it was Sandra that he'd be guiding. "What's going on?" Sandra asked wearing a confused look on her face. On her part, she was also stunned to see Jesse.

Mr Jobs wasn't aware that the two were familiar with each other then with edginess in his tone, Mr Jobs said, "Sandra, this is Jesse Noriega. Jesse this is Sandra Sage. And he'll be your guide."

School was over, and Sandra couldn't wait to get out of Carmen's car and into her house. She barges in and meets her parents who were shocked by the manner of her approach.

"Really, Mom, Dad?!" She yelled. Confused, her parents both asked, "What's the problem, Sandra?" She goes closer to them and said, "Principal Jobs called me in today. A guide mom? Really?"

"Sandra, I think it's very important that you let your guide do his job." Her mom stressed. "But I don't need a guide! I have Indigo and Isabelle," Her dad tried to convince her by saying, "Isabelle, that's new. But honey, a guide's different. Whoever was assigned to you automatically, you become their responsibility."

"Dad, I'm responsible for myself! For God's sakes, I'm 16!" She retorted. Her mother had had enough of Sandra's complaints, "It's enough Sandra! What your father and I did was very beneficial, and if you don't like it, you have to deal with it."

Sandra groaned as she left for her bedroom. She remained in her room till nightfall. Her phone beeped, it was a text message from Jesse. It read: "Hey, still tryna figure out why you left me hanging back at school today."

What the fuck! How'd this guy get my number? Sandra thought to herself. She let that slide and replied to his message saying: "Didn't expect my guide to be the school's heartthrob." "Shit! Why did I just send that? The school's heartthrob?" Sandra said. She was annoyed with her response. She found it a bit cheesy.

Shortly, Jesse replied saying: "The school's heartthrob? Nah, I'm far from that." Sandra knew Jesse was just trying to be a humble ass so she wrote back saying: "C'mon, you're literally the face of the school's football team, anytime you walk the hallway, girls and boys have butterflies in their bellies just by seeing your face and lastly, you've got Devi." But she erased them all and simply sent this instead: "Then you must be really blind."

...

Jesse was in his house, lying on his couch when his brother passed and asked him, "Bro, who's got you smiling like that?" Jesse chuckled then he said, "It's this girl from my school." Then he replied to Sandra: "If you say so then I guess I am."

Sandra didn't text back for a while, then Jesse decided to text her again: "You wanna go somewhere? Where we could talk." Sandra saw his message and decided to wait for some minutes before she answered: "Where could you possibly wanna take me?"

Jesse replied: "You're Indigo's neighbour right?" Then Sandra texted him back saying yes. He texted her saying that he would be at Indigo's place shortly. "Fuck, shit!" Sandra cussed a lot. "What have I gotten myself into?" She said as she bit her nails. She ransacked through her closets looking for what to wear until she found a floral red short gown. She put them on and topped them off with her favourite sneakers; Chucky T's.

She adjusted her hair as she looked for excuses she'd give to her parents if they found out where she was going. She steadily sneaked past the living room until her father turned on the lights. She stood still like a deer in headlights, hoping not to be caught by her father. "Anyone there?" Mr Andrew said. He got no response so he turned off the lights and went back upstairs.

"Phew!" Sandra said. She successfully went outside her house and she stood by Indigo's house waiting for Jesse. Indigo was by his window unknowingly to Sandra. He watched everything that went down between Sandra and Jesse. How Jesse arrived in his SUV, how he came down and opened the door for Sandra to go in, and how he drove off to God knows where. He was furious mostly at Sandra for not heeding his advice. So his next plan was to follow them.
