CHAPTER 36 – Visibly unseen

"What happened?" Wrap asks me, as I look at my phone.

"Well, I just got a notification that I'm going to get a call from Psyand's mother, but…" I say, looking at the caller ID notification.

"Maybe by mistake," Wrap says.

"She never called anyone all this time with us," I say. "Nor did I ever overhear, or anything at all."

"Well, call her back then."

I try, and it says that the number is switched off. I put it on speaker, right as the sentence is said in Kannada, right after English.

The weird part being… Forcerer's number says the same.

All we could do was, wait for Scelesthe, Psyand, and Rusk to come out any minute now. Then we can go check on the obvious fine-situation of Psyand's mother and Forcerer. They'd be fine… right?

At least seeing that there is no commotion on the inside, my mouth sighs a relaxed breath.

***

"You are not Yjale Shred," I say, after entering the room, supposed to be occupied by Yjale Shred.

"And you are not my son," the floating-head-inside-an-incubator, sitting in the lap of… Silver-mask, says.

That was Ivor Villers, the father of Rustizen Villers, the previous owner of my dragon-gem.

"You know him?" Silver-mask asks, his voice still modified like before. "And he seems to recognise me, lucky me."

"That was a sarcasm. You people don't recognise those anymore?" Mr-Ivor-Villers says.

"Don't act like I don't know that your son was a dragon… is that your son, Ivor?"

"My son would be eighty plus. Does this one look so? Besides, he ABANDONED me-" the head just… sleeps.

"I know what comes after that," Silver-mask mumbles to himself, and seems to turn towards me. "He talks a lot. No wonder his friends left him. Let's start our conversation then, mister… Ramsus."

"You… you are one of those elites… why bother come here for one hero such as O?"

"O?" Silver-mask scoffs. "None of us could touch her if we wanted to. I… came here for you, Ramsus. I just KNEW O mentioned about you."

"Yeah?" I ask, and Silver-Mask's expression stiffens. "Catch me then."

The alarms start blaring at my first transformation in ages.

***

I follow the lady and the little girl, deeper into the building. They talk in whispers, and seem to go towards the location I had triangulated O to be at.

I couldn't let them ahead of me, for too long.

The kid seems to have elongation abilities, while the lady has armour on her hands, and good skills to knock people out.

Only if I could get ahead of them… the officers wouldn't be hard for me, I could easily knock them out too. And finally free O.

So I run quickly to a nearby alarm, and hit it. And as expected, the officers chase the elder one out of the room, and I quickly enter the room they had exited.

I have to be careful and fast, the little one could be the tougher opponent here, and she wasn't with the lady who ran out.

But on the bright side… she couldn't possibly see me, just like the others.

***

"Psyand… be struck with Scelesthe and… if it is someone from Saturn, don't let them know it is you," Ma had told me.

It was just police officers… but I still couldn't get caught. Or Executive would find me.

Could I really be stronger than him… if I… no, my friends need her help. And I couldn't let somebody else make me do things. I needed friends, not a... voice to give me orders.

I move out from the little gap below the couch. Nobody was going to come. Whoever's this office was, wasn't here anyway.

Hopefully Scelestha is okay. She said she is bulletproof.

I spy with my ears and go back to the room I had come from, and place my hand on the handle of the door I was supposed to enter before. I raise a fist from my other hand, ready to knock someone out, if anyone.

I project out my hand, and open the door, to find a guy standing in front of another, who was just sleeping there on the chair… unconscious.

I was on my own now, at least until the guys come following the alarm sound, and help me.

The one awake, looks at me, and stares, and I simply punch my projected hand towards him, straight at his face, and he dodges; to look behind himself.

No… how could he? And why did he look like… that? There is a certain word for this, something which sounds like 'pearl'.

I project the hand backwards, into another trajectory, and the guy bends down and moves away.

He looks at me, and opens his mouth to say something, but I can't even hear a whisper.

His leg moves in shapes, and he floats above, and I follow him with my eyes. As he speeds towards me, I punch him and send him backwards, but barely, he moves slightly backwards and then towards me, making me fall.

As I sit on the ground, he stands right in front of me.

I project a tiny layer out, and make him fall too, and I kick him with my leg, but I just simply feel pain in my own leg. So I project one hand, and push him with both my hands, and make him hit a cabinet behind him.

Right, must have thought before doing it. His friends rush in with pistols, and I race to hide somewhere.

Bullets shoot towards me, but I escape… way too well.

As I look in between me and the officers, it is that guy, and the officers seem to be shook at this, like I was.

Why was he helping me? Moreover… Rusk needed his shield, and Scelestha her armour, to be bulletproof. But this guy… just stood in-between. Was he fine?

He races ahead, and just… all the five officers ahead of us, just drop down to the floor. And the guy doesn't even seem to be hurt.

Afterwards, he runs towards the guy sitting on the chair, and the guy wakes up, to race ahead, and I do too, towards the same place, but he bends down and grabs a pistol from one of the officers, and points it at me.

"Who are you?" he asks, while gasping.

Where was the other guy? The one who knocked the officers and I even fought him… he was… inside this guy now?

No. Dragons were real. Superheroes were real. Not ghosts.

But he could still see my projected hand coming… back in the apartment and when I helped Mr. LB, I had projected my hand with the light, to make sure I don't miss. And that could help people predict… but this guy could see it, even when I didn't project out the light.

And then this guy… not a ghost... disappeared. And the officers… could it be that they couldn't see him?

So his powers and mine must be something similar, like Thunder and that lady's, and Rusk plus… whoever made that shield around the apartments, had similar powers.

I keep my hand stiff and start projecting out my hand, while the guy just keeps his focus at me. I grab the pistol, and like I hoped, he doesn't stop that… doesn't see that coming.

But he clicks the trigger. Upwards, towards the ceiling, a bullet shoots. I still push the pistol towards me, in this angle, and hold it in my own hand.

The guy forces his body behind, and outside the door. And by the time I aim the pistol at him, properly, the other one comes out. I shoot towards him, and witness his bulletproof self, as the bullet stops in mid-air, and then disappears.

I stumble backwards, just like he had done, just a while ago.

A question that I had been shown by Executive, and asked by my mom, and even Rusk, shoots through my mind… what if it wasn't just the hand?

As I feel myself fall backwards, and the guy comes closer, I concentrate on the pistol, rather than my own hand. And this time… I switch on the lights. The pistol glows in its black-tint colour, and breaks into pieces, in my hands.

I push my body away, but escape with scars on my hand. A little blood oozes out, and I grit my teeth, and shut my palms to close, tightly.

What was that dialogue… you should have seen the other person?

Well, I could see him, but also hole in the wall behind, and… another person. A girl. And possibly the one we came here for.

The girl, elder to me, but younger than Rusk maybe, looks at the hole, and then at me.

"Are you with Max?" she asks.

"Who is that? Are you O?" I ask.

"I am… so you don't know Max?"

"No…" I say. "But I'm here to help you. And need your help."

As I walk forward, O gets up and walks backwards, while putting her hands forward, as a sign for me to stop.

"I'm fine here," O says.

"No, it is dangerous," I say, while going closer.

"Don't come closer," O says.

"We don't have time, they may come anytime."

"Stop there."

"Why?"

As I get closer, somebody comes from behind the fine-wall, and grabs me.

.

.

.

"That sounds suicidal," I say to Max.

"Well… you are getting ripped apart right this moment so…"

"Max… the pieces are in my HAND."

"Then that'll be its prison," Max says. "Or it'll make the world its."

"That… what if I BECOME it?"

"It is a plague but… it can only be stopped with the Kohinoor. So as long as you are its master, you-"

"-you are kidding. We wear masks, afraid of a breath-blocking disease or whatever. And you expect me to…"

"I have tried all my life… and Kohinoor is the one thing I could make. And I… there is no other way."

"What if…" my sister gets killed or turned? It'd be fine if it ended with me.

I don't wait to ask further questions, and just exit out of this place, again.

I put my un-healing hand in between this dream-core monster and me-

.

-

"AGH!" I scream, feeling the monster in front of me, and it and me, holding my head.

What was that? Something worse than that guy I had fought. It was the mixture of all… monsters.

O holds the monster and… squeezes it into her hand. The monster just gets dragged and disappears into a shiny, glassy gauntlet, around O's arm.

"Are you alright?" O asks, holding me with her other arm.

"What was that?" I ask, while sweating.

"I had to keep myself safe in here, so… well… I guess you are with Max. Or you wouldn't have seen that. Well, I'm ready to come with you then," O says.

"But what about that…"

I feel the little gem-piece, over my hand, just fade away.

"It is simply… gone. Don't fear it. It is nothing now," O says. "Who is that guy though?"

I look towards the way O is looking, and find the normal-guy on the ground, just sleeping there, like I first saw him, but now on the ground.

"We need to carry him out. I know someone who will want to talk to him," I say.

I hold the guy, and drag him, with my projected hand, and O helps too. And we head out of the building, from the same way me and Scelestha had come-in from.

As we reach the van, Scelestha and Rusk look towards me, and come running, to help.

Glad everything worked.
