Chapter 91

An hour later Remi and Poppy were sitting on the hillside overlooking the vineyard under a shade tree. Things were silent, but somehow Poppy thought just having someone close to her was what Remi needed most. She admitted that her mother was too hard to talk to at times and didn't understand that she wasn't made for the life they led. Her mother was a loyal mafia wife, and nothing seemed to bother her, except for when her children were hurting. She meant well, but at times could be a little insensitive to their needs.

Looking out over the groves, Remi let out a breath that she must have been holding in all night. "I froze," she blurted out suddenly.

"Huh?" Poppy asked, shaken from the silence.

"I froze. I've never done that before. I couldn't kill her."

"Who? Remi, I don't know what's going on."

"Olive, my brother's wife. She's dead. Roman shot her, but not until, after I tortured her."

"What? Why?"

"She was involved. She set up."
