His Reason

"Why did he change schools? Is that even possible at all?" I ask her as we walk out of the building, Christian right behind us.

"My mom said he told her that he wanted to change schools."

"Yeah, why?"

"Because I was tired of seeing the same faces over and over again." He spoke up and I turned to look at him.

"What?"

"The school's boring."

"It's a school of tech. What do you expect? To be partying every day?"I ask.

He nods. "Yeah. That's pretty much what I expected."

"Ughhh." I roll my eyes.

"So when you're tired of this school also, you'd change environment?"

"Possibly." He shrugged. Billie sighs and shakes her head. "The girls there were all tacky and serious. No fun."

"So you're here for the girls?" I ask him.

"Yup."

"When will you ever take your life seriously?"

"The day you give me all the attention I need." He says back immediately and I glare at him.

"I'd rather die than give you attention."

"Hmmmm." He smiles. "Better think again."

"There you two go again!" Billie groans. "This is why I don't want you here." She says to Christian. "You guys always argue when you meet each other. You're always at each other's throat."

"I'd love to be at other places." He winks at me.

Billie smacks his head. "Ew Christian. Have you no shame?"

Her phone rings and she answers the call. "Hello? I'll be there in ten." She hangs up and sighs. "I have a class now so I'll talk to you guys later. Please try not to kill each other, okay?" She pleaded and walked away, leaving Christian and I all alone.

I roll my eyes and continue walking. "Do you still have classes?" Christian falls in step with me.

"What's it to you?" I ask him.

"Well, I'm new here, I'm lost and I need someone to help me around with a tour."

"You'd have to find another person for that."

"Why?"

"I have a class."

"After?"

"Study session."

"Hold up." He holds my hand and stops us. "Did you just say study session?"

"So?"

He laughs. "I thought you hated books." He points out.

"Well," I removed his hand from mine. "In order for me to have a serious life and a good future, I have to read. Unlike someone I know." I continue to walk.

"Wow. Look at you all grown up." He teases. "Can I join?"

"No." I say immediately.

He takes a deep breath. "That was quick."

I stop and he stops abruptly behind me. "Christian." I begin. "We're not even in the same major. You're computer science, and I'm law. How does that relate?"

"I have nowhere to stay."

"Then find one."

"I have none."

I fold my arms together. "Now that's a lie."

He raises his hands up in surrender. "You got me."

I roll my eyes and continue walking.

"But I don't want them, I want you."

"Christian just stop."

"Who are you studying with?" He asks.

"Why are you asking?"

"Maybe I can see a couple of numbers to secure." I roll my eyes.

"I'm the only girl."

"With how many boys?" He asks. "You guys sure you're studying law or body parts?" He asks and I stop.

I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes.

He will not be the death of me.

He will not be the death of me.

He will not be the death of me.

I repeated in my head three times before turning to him.

I took his hand and placed the apartment key on his palm.

"Take a bus or taxi or whatever and tell them you're going to Anex Apartments. 1st floor, 106. Stay there till anyone comes home and please stop stressing me!" I state and walk away.

"Love you!!!!" He shouts behind me and I roll my eyes.

....

"I don't just get what he's doing here!" I blurt out.

"Who?" Michael asks.

I had forgotten I was with Michael.

We decided to meet up in an empty class to study. And for over an hour, Christian hasn't left my mind.

He has no reason to be here. I don't see how or why he's here.

"Christian."

"Christian?"

"Um yeah. He's Billie's brother. Twin actually."

"She has a twin?" He asks surprised.

"Yeah. But he's a dickhead."

"One's a nutcase and the other, a dickhead. Perfect family."

I chuckle. "Tell me about it."

"So why don't you get why Christian's here?"

"He goes to College of Science and Technology Institute but suddenly he came here saying he had changed schools."

"Wait, he attends the famous CSTI, and he suddenly left to come here?"

I nod.

"The CSTI that only extremely brilliant students can only attend?"

"That CSTI." I nod.

"So what's he doing here?"

"That's the same thing I keep asking myself over and over."

"Why ask yourself? Just ask him instead." He says and I scoff.

"You say this because you haven't met Christian yourself."

"What do you mean?"

"Asking him a question is like talking to a tree. You can't possibly get anything out of a tree."

"Oof."

"But Christian's worse than a tree." I continue. "He not only doesn't answer you, but he frustrates you in the process. He averts your questions, then makes you question why you even questioned him in the first place. In short, he's really annoying."

"From the way you seem agitated, he really gets on your nerves."

I nod. "He really does."

"Should we just end tonight's study here?"

"I'm sorry."

"It's fine. I get it. I feel the same way about my cousin too. So it's understandable."

"Thank you."

I start to pack my books and we both walk out of the class together.

We stepped out of the building together but I stopped when I noticed something.

"Lesley?" Michel called my name but I was staring at the guy who stood not less than twenty feet away from me, scrolling through his phone, while resting by a car.

Christian Sinclair. Billie's twin brother and my worst enemy (kind of.) Just like how I've known Billie since middle school, I've known him too. But then, I had a crush on him. Each time Billie entered a room, I always checked to see if he was behind her. And if he entered a room, my eyes always lit up. With his gray eyes and black hair, he was charming. I had had a crush on him for years until everything came crashing down in junior year in high school. Now, I just find him frustrating and annoying.

"Christian?" I call his name and he looks up.

He smiles and waves.

"Sorry Michael, but I have to go." I say to him and walk towards Christian.

"What are you doing here?" I ask him.

"What does it look like? I was waiting for you." He answers nonchalantly.

"Why? Why would you be waiting for me?"

"Because I had your key?" He says back but in a questioning tone and I sigh.

"I gave you the key to go home." I said blankly, already starting to get frustrated.

"But I don't know where Anex Apartments is."

"That's why I told you to take a cab or bus."

"Why would I when I have a car?" He taps on the car he's resting on and I take a look at it well.

It's s black Lexus car.

"Lucky you." I say and start to walk away.

He hurries to my side. "Let me drop you off."

"I'm good."

"C'mon. It's a free ride. You don't have to pay a dime for transportation."

I stopped. "Let's go." I state and turn back to his car.

Minutes later, he pulls up in front of the apartment building and parks.

"I'm not going up with you." He states.

"I never asked." I stretch out my hand.

He stares at it for a moment before he links his hand with mine. I immediately yank my hand away and glare at him.

"Are you on drugs?!"

"I thought you were signaling for me to touch you."

"That's shitty." I gag.

"I'm sorry."

"My keys."

"Oh right." He reached for his trousers and checked his pockets. He checked the first, then the second, then the back pockets.

I took a deep breath and sighed.

"I think I may have lost the keys." He says with a small smile.

He will not be the death of-

Oh fuck it.

I don't know when my hand reached for his hair and yanked it hard.
