Chapter 13: First Flight into Darkness

Judith’s long spiral curls bounced joyfully as she entered the quaint cottage.

“What took you so long?” Judith asked, shaking the few raindrops off of her sweater. “Whose car is in the driveway?”

“I…uh…have guests…from work,” Edith stammered.

Judith raised her eyebrows and looked around.

“Where are they?” She whispered.

Edith opened the back door, making sure the inquisitive Blaze stayed behind her foot.

“Caden? Miles? Asher? Come in, it’s my friend, Judith,” Edith gazed back at her friend who was watching her with interest. “I hope you are ready for this.”

“Oh?” Judith smiled, putting her hands on her hips.

At that moment, the three vampire guests strolled innocently through the front door. Judith jumped back and simply stared.

“Hello,” Miles said cheerfully. “I recall meeting you at Liam Doyle’s funeral.”

“Oh, yes…” Judith said haltingly. She cast a frantic look at Edith.

“The hearse…horses…” Edith suggested. Recognition flared in Judith’s eyes.
