She should have known Christian would show up sooner or later. A few texts blowing him off would not keep him at bay. He was persistent, which was both his best and his worst quality. She was mildly surprised, and mostly irritated when he knocked on her door two days after she’d returned home.
She wasn’t sure what to do about Diego, who was sitting tensely on the couch watching tv. He looked up at her in alarm, gesturing to the door. “Whoever it is, get rid of them,” he said quietly. She nodded and rolled her eyes. Obviously, she wasn’t going to invite anyone in for a chat and an introduction to her ex-boyfriend who’d supposedly died years ago.
When she saw that it was Christian at the door, her stomach lurched. He would not be so easy to turn away. She stood at the door for several seconds hesitating. Finally, Diego stood up and walked to the door. She was so overwhelmed, she couldn’t react quickly enough. He was opening the door before she could stop him.
