It killed Angela to betray Joel’s trust. It killed her even more to be giving Germaine the exact information that could put him away for good. She knew, though, that if she shared with Germaine what she’d learned from Chief Hall, she’d have his trust. Having his trust would make it easier to move against him. He wouldn’t see it coming that way.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea to meet with him in person,” Diego said for the fifth time that afternoon.
Angela rolled her eyes at him as she packed up her briefcase.
“I appreciate the concern, but this isn’t a phone conversation. I can’t have any of this traced back to me.”
She straightened up and turned to face him. She felt as nervous as she did on her first day at the paper. She kept fidgeting and adjusting her clothes. She couldn’t find a good way to ease the nervous tension in her body.
Diego grabbed her hands to still them.
“You look perfect. Not like a narc, or anything,” he added with a wink.
