Chapter 45: Family Meeting

Angela reluctantly woke up to the sound of a phone ringing. She reached around blindly to find it, and possibly throw it against the wall, but someone else got to it first.

“Twenty minutes?” the voice said. “Okay, I’ll be there.”

There was a long pause.

“What? No! She doesn’t need to come.”

Another pause.

“She did her part, she doesn’t owe us anything.”

Another pause, though she could hear a booming voice screaming.

“Screw you, too,” she heard, though it was clear that the phone call was already finished.

She sat up slowly and painfully, realizing she’d been sleeping in an odd position.

“This isn’t my bed,” she said lamely as she realized she was on her couch. She looked over blearily to see Diego next to her, looking like he’d had a similarly uncomfortable sleep.

“Hi,” she said sweetly. It was nice waking up with him beside her. Familiar.

“Hi,” he said back, smiling. Then he frowned. “We have to go. Germaine wants to meet us in 20 minutes.”
