Chapter 52: Hell Breaks Loose

Diego didn’t know what he expected, but it wasn’t this. A month had gone by since Mayor Page declared war on the gang, and the police were still chasing their tails. Every day there was a new bust, but they weren’t getting any closer to actually nailing Germaine to the wall. Several of the younger members had been scooped up, but they were afraid to say anything. They would rather go to jail for selling drugs than rat out their supplier.

Germaine had changed too. Diego hardly heard from him anymore, even for his daily check-ins. The first week it happened, Diego thought it was unusual. Even Angela wasn’t getting any response from him.

Angela had also become quite sullen and reserved since her fight with her father. Personally, Diego thought the mayor had a point. He also didn’t like the idea of Angela putting herself in danger, and perhaps protective custody wasn’t a bad idea. He knew she would absolutely never agree, though. She was too strong-willed and stubborn.
