“Angela?”
Christian’s voice startled her as she walked into the police station. She hadn’t even thought about running into him. It hadn’t occurred to her that he could be there. But why wouldn’t he be? He’d been working around the clock on the investigation.
“Come with me,” she said, grabbing his hand and pulling him into Chief Hall’s office. He was so stunned he didn’t have time to react.
“What’s going on?” Joel said as they entered. He eyed Christian suspiciously, but he could only shrug.
“I need to talk to you both. It’s very urgent,” she said this all in a hurried breath. Her anxiety was getting the best of her, but she knew she would have to push through and do this.
“What’s wrong sweetie?” Joel asked sympathetically.
“I’ve been lying to you Uncle Joel,” she said, her voice breaking. “I’ve been lying to everyone. And I can’t do it anymore!” Tears were streaming down her face, but she pressed on. She turned to Christian. “You should probably sit down for this.”
