Party

(Diana's POV)

I sorted out a lot of dresses from my wardrobe but nothing seemed to satisfy me

' pick the black dress' Sera said but I ignored her.

I picked a pair of black jeans and black top. Soon , the door bell rang and aunt opened the door for Julie and Ava. Ava was wearing a purple short dress which was off her shoulders. She had done het hair and applied little makeup while Julie was wearing an emerald long gown with slits on both sides. Her hair was packed up. She looked like a plant goddess.

Aunt followed them to my room and when she saw what I was wearing, she couldn't help but chuckle.

" Sheess! What are you wearing Diana? we aren't attending a funeral you know " Julie had an irritated expression on her face.

" I'm supposed to ask you guys that. You are dressed like you are attending a dinner party"

Julie facepalm herself and Ava chuckled.

" Thank goodness I volunteered to pick you up. It's actually a dinner party not a club"

" looks like lover girl wasn't listening" Ava teased and blood rushed to my face.

Julie looked at the clothes on my bed and picked the black dress Sera suggested I wore.

" This will be nice"

' Yeah nice ' I heard Sera reply dryly inside of me.

I put on the dress and Julie assisted in putting makeup on my face. When we were about to leave, aunty Chloe held my hand and smiled sweetly at me.

" Don't stay out long dear. I'll be waiting for you.... Have fun"

I smiled back and pecked her cheeks.

We arrived at the party in a black mercedes benz, the latest version to be precise. I felt so proud to have my friends.

Chris party was organised in one of the largest halls in town. His parents are affluent.

I was about to itch my eyes when Julie hit my hand and chuckled.

" You are going to get your masscara smeared"

We entered the hall and saw a lot of people like our classmates and some adults. Some teenagers were dancing. Seems like Chris parents had invited them to show off their wealth.

A waiter came holding a tray with glasses of wine. We picked a cup each and as I was about to sip, I heard a familiar voice behind me.

" You girls came "

I put on my cutest smile as always.

" Hey Chris Happy birthday"

" Birthday boy" Julie smiled at him while Ava said dryly.

" Happy birthday"

" Thanks girls...you all look so stunning tonight especially you Dian"

Did he just compliment me?! My heart was beating so fast that I thought I was going to lost my breath.

' So what do you think of my idea?' Sera's voice popped up.

" Thanks Chris, you don't look too bad yourself " I ignored the voice inside me.

He smiled and stretched his hand.

" If you don't mind, would you give me a dance?"

For a sec, I felt like cinderella

I maintained a calm faceade while my insides were jumping.

" Yeah sure " I placed my hand in his and we walked away. I turned back at my friends and saw Julie wink at me.

We were at the center of the hall dancing to a solemn song, everyone's attention was on us.

" Who's that?"

" Diana?"

" if I knew Chris taste were like hers, I would have acted more like her"

All my attention was on Chris who was smiling at me. My heart felt warm...I can't believe I could have another personality because of this guy.

Suddenly, he inched closer to me and moved closer to my ear. I could feel his warm breath against my neck

I shivered.

" Let's go outside" He whispered and gently pulled my hand and we headed towards the balcony.

My day was getting better every minute. When we got out, it was already dark and there was a full moon.

My heart raced faster, was he going to kiss me? or ask me out? I felt nervous.

" Diana, I need you to do something for me"

" What is it?" I replied eagerly

' looks like someone is soon gonna get a boyfriend ' Sera chuckled.

" I actually like....." My head screamed.

" I like...I like.." He was also nervous

I touched his arm and smiled at him.

" Go on Chris"

He took a deep breath and looked deeply into my eyes.

" The thing is, I like Ava"

Immediately, my smiled stiffened and a took a step away from him.

" I like her so much but she doesn't seem to show any interest in me so I'm thinking of asking her out today during the party.

My heart dropped.

" You...you like Ava?"

" Yes...I'm telling you this because.."

He brought out a small box and handed it over to me.

" When the time comes tonight, you will hand this over to her."

I took the box and balled my fist so hard.

" no...I..I mean...yeah"

The boy smiled and placed a hand on my shoulder.

" Thank you very much Dian, what could I have done without you"

" it's okay" I blinked my eyes severally to push back the tears that were struggling to come out of my eyes.

He walked away leaving me behind. I looked at the box and later at the moon with a sour expression on my face.

I walked back inside to where my friends were, Julie was the first to speak.

" Hey babe, so did anything go on between you two?" She wiggled her eyebrows. I glanced at Ava who was waiting for my reply. What did he see in Ava? was it those disgusting pair of eyes which everyone called pretty?!

I didn't say a word and gently handed the box over to Ava.

" What is this?"

" Chris asked me to give this to you" My voice came out low

Julie looked confused. Ava opened the box and saw a sparkly ring inside. My stomach churned and I felt so jealous.

" Why would he hand over a ring to me?"

I frowned and talked sarcastically.

" I don't know, maybe you should ask him. I'm off, aunty said I shouldn't come home late."

" What?! the party just started" Julie immediately retorted.

" I don't care, I just want to go home please"

I walked away and Julie caught up with me and held my arm.

" I'll tell the chauffeur to drop you off"

I wriggled my arm out of her grip

" No thanks, I prefer taking the cab" And with that, I walked away.

I didn't see a cab around so I had to walk all the way home. On my way, tears didn't stop falling from my eyes. My mascara and the foundation under my eyes had started to wash off.

What was so special about Ava? If he liked Ava so much, why did he give me butterflies all the time? Why did he smile at me everytime our eyes met? Wasn't I pretty enough?

I walked through a corner when I saw two shadows. One was standing, the other one was struggling. Though, I didn't really see anything going on but I still didn't care. I was too heartbroken to care about some drunk thugs.

Just as I was about to turn and walk away, I felt a sharp pain in my clavicle and everything I saw next was black.
