[MARINA]
The tension in the atmosphere changed as soon as that wolf announced Marina's arrival. The ones who were busy with work stopped as soon as they heard that. Of course, they did the same earlier, the only difference this time around was their mouth stayed wide open, nothing coming from them.
Gaping, their eyes filled with admiration. Everyone wanted to be like her when they grew up. Heck! They would die and come back for their second lives and become Marina.
On the other hand, Marina seemed unaffected by it. Shivering, she looked away from the packhouse. If she weren't already at the Fishers Pack, she would have ordered Cecil Ayn to wheel them out of there. The packhouse was the last place she wanted to be.
Cecil had a sad look, her heart breaking for her friend. She placed one hand on the boot while the other was typing furiously on her phone. In a flash, Marina stood beside her. Rereading the text one last time, Cecil nodded at Marina while getting the bag. Shaking her head, Marina reassured her that her bags were hers. With a blank look, Marina motioned Cecil to follow her.
The sound of Marina's boots reverberated throughout the compound, the wolves were still staring. Ignoring her phone, Cecil placed her palm on Marina's lower back. They strutted towards the packhouse, their footsteps matching, anyone would think they rehearsed. Honestly, it was one of the reasons the wolves couldn't look away.
Her focus was only on the packhouse, not once did she look sideways to say hi to the wolves. It should be the other way around. On Cecil's face, sat a curt smile. She admired the packhouse. Always have, and by the looks of it, always will.
The packhouse was constructed a long time ago by Marina's great-great-grandfather. It was weird that it looked exactly how the modern buildings were. Maybe… the architect had foreseen the future. It was absolutely astonishing.
The packhouse was divided into floors and chambers.
The office and the rooms on the upper floor belonged to the Alpha and Beta families. The next, contained the clinic, maternity wards, Doctor Bedelia's office, the nurses' lounge, and the high priestess' office.
Followed by the next floor which had enough chambers for every family.
A tunnel that a few people have access to existed below the house. It led to the death chambers. It was secured, freaking cold, eerie quiet, out of bounce, and most importantly, creepy as fuck. Well, it is not like the dead knew what they were up against. Right?
The big door painted black with yellow strips welcomed Marina and Cecil. Cecil stared at Marina's hair pulled into a neat ponytail, the small yellow bow not amiss. Offering Marina her saddest smile, Cecil returned her focus to the guards.
"Welcome, alpha Marina."
Tirelessly, Marina mumbled back a thank you and walked in. Her home welcomed her, but what she found calming yet disturbing to Cecil Ayn was the uncanny silence. A sigh escaped her lips, her eyes focused, allowing her legs to carry her to wherever they wanted to. At least Cecil was behind her.
"The lift," Cecil mumbled softly.
"I want to see my father first," Marina said.
"You must see your mother first, Marina," Cecil advised.
A low growl emitted from her, she removed the hand from her back and said dangerously lowly, "I want to…." Marina trailed off. A resonating wail rang all over the packhouse. Cecil returned the hand at Marina's back. If she hadn't, she would have fallen. Ivy pushed her lightly into the lift and bit her lower lip.
On their floor, they got off. The scene in front would have broken Marina if she had given a fuck. Luna Audra's breath got more erratic as Marina walked toward her. Luna Audra stretched her hands at Marina, overwhelmed by the need to hold her daughter. Earlier, the pain stopped or so she thought.
High Priestess Mannequin, Beta Shark, and Chief Ayn had a somber look. They couldn't help Luna Audra. However, it turned to relief as soon as they saw Marina. Her steps widened as she approached her mother, she squatted in front of her mother, everyone holding their breaths thinking Marina would help.
They had something else coming.
Marina spat, "you psychotic son of a bitch, how dare you to kill dad?"
Everyone gasped. Marina sucked in some air, and continued, "stop with your acting, it is pathetic. Aren't you going to smash him later, mommy?"
Beta Shark stooped low and said lowly, "watch out, Marina. She is hurting and so do I. But have you seen me accusing anyone? No. Come on, let me take you to the body." He finished and placed his hand on Marina's shoulder.
The sound of her bag falling on the floor didn't register as fast as the echoing sound they all heard from Marina slapping Beta Shark across the face. Marina seethed in rage, "don't you dare call my father a body. Am I clear?"
Beta Shark had no option but to nod. She added, "and don't you ever touch me again, I will remove your hands out of its socket. Am I clear?"
"Yes, Alpha."
"Good. Take the woman far away from me." Marina commanded High Priestess without giving her a second glance.
Seeing her daughter was on the verge of tears, Chief Ayn stood stuck where she was. Yes, she knew Marina was cold and hard to deal with, the last thing she expected was to hear her saying something like that to her birth mother. "Mom." Cecil cried. At least this broke her from her trance.
"Take me to my father. Now!" Marina bellowed an order. She followed Beta Shark, then stopped as she remembered something.
Marina called her mother softly, Luna Audra stopped screaming and looked up, her heart beating in relief, finally, Marina would console her. With pure contempt, Marina announced, "psychotic mommy killed daddy." She gave everyone a look, then finished while staring deeply into her mother's eyes, "I wish you were dead."
