[RINZLER]
As bizarre as it sounded, the scrolls smelt good, no one would believe it dated way back before his father glimpsed the world of light for the first time. The woody smell filled the air, reminding him of when he touched it for the first time when he was young. His father threatened them in a sweet voice to handle them with care, leaving no scrunches whatsoever.
To mention the least, just like his well-kept maps, the scrolls were in perfect shape.
Sadly, it wasn't time to reminisce about those beautiful memories. With time not on their side, especially for him since all he wished was to fly to the Fisher Pack, he didn't find the cursive texts attractive anymore. He was annoyed to the deepest of his core. "Lake Rimaria, why now? Out of all the days, sucker?" He sucked in some air and glanced at his father.
Propping his head with his hand, Alpha Aspen saw how his son looked at him. He didn't have an answer and they both knew it wasn't his fault. Everything about the lake was always in the scrolls, but they couldn't find anything about the salt or the waves originating from the Axel Land.
How did the authors of the scrolls miss that? Has it never occurred before? Endless questions with no answers. Impatiently, he rolled it up and got another one from the floor. Axel Land map stared at him, he literally felt it judging him. After failed attempts, even studying it upside down, he handed it to his father and began reading a few reports Beta Tetra managed to come up with in search on short notice.
Still, nothing.
"Dad, what else? The humans from the Lake don't pollute the water, I checked the source and…" His voice faded as he tried to recall the last time he did that. So occupied with the proposition, he forgot about a salient duty he solely swore to perform well before he became the alpha.
"When?" Alpha Aspen asked while sending a link for Beta Tetra to meet them right away.
"Um, I-"
"Boy, start talking."
"Mmh, A few months ago. I think."
"Son, what happened?"
Looking away, he almost begged his father not to look at him as he was. Those amble eyes were telling him he failed. Rinzler propped himself on the chair just as the door was opening. Beta Tetra announced, "Savannah is taking care of the babies and all that."
Rinzler chuckled, a vivid picture of his sister handling the kids coming into mind. He knew how much Savannah found that hectic. Before he could ask why he wasn't outside carrying research from everyone if they knew anything, Alpha Aspen spoke, "our son here forgot to check the lake."
Dramatically, Beta Tetra slapped a palm over his mouth, and his voice came out in muffles, "oh, boy. What have you done!"
"Uncle, really, now?" Rinzler replied as he shook his head. He gathered the scrolls and asked them to follow him outside. They nodded at the wolves entering the packhouse, Rinzler could hear his sister's sweet voice laced with a commanding tone underneath. They arrived at the shore, and his eyes first fell on the bridge, he said, [Savannah, there is a child at the bridge.]
[Come on, you do it.]
[Sorry, busy.] Rinzler stared into the water, the scrolls on his arms getting heavier as seconds flew, why did he carry it? His father saw his hands shaking, he signaled Beta Tetra to relieve him, willingly, and Rinzler handed them to him.
He lost himself in the endless water mass, his thoughts went to earlier when High Priestess informed him of Marina's coming. Since he wasn't there, they had to take the body to the chambers of death or else Marina would have gone berserk if she found her father uncared for.
"You know, I thought by now, Lake Rimaria would shout an answer at you, why are we here?"
Breaking out of his trance, Rinzler snapped, "uncle, shut up. It is not like you have somewhere else to be."
Beta Tetra only shrugged. However, Alpha Aspen slapped Rinzler's back, "apologize, now."
Mumbling some incoherent words, Rinzler apologized.
For a few minutes, Beta Tetra appeared to be in deep concentration. His eyes shone as if he had discovered something great, he waved, "okay. So, I have some clues on why the lake is how it is. It wants payment. I think someone broke the law for nature. I can't say it is about someone rejecting someone. Well, if the lake wants a mate, it can mate itself."
"No. Let it not be it." Rinzler thought.
"Someone cheated death. Do you remember the story I loved narrating to you about our granddads, the lake, the fishers pack, and the moon goddess?" Beta Tetra inquired.
"Yeah. Thanks, uncle. Go, make sure everyone is in." Rinzler replied, if that was it, then they were in deep shit.
"The pack is doing well, only Alpha Fisher, and I am sure he won't do something stupid like cheating death, he won't leave me, he won't betray me, I still want him by my side." Alpha Aspen choked.
Rinzler turned, and patted his father's back, "dad, go, I will handle this."
Without objecting, Alpha Aspen left. Ensuring his dad got to the packhouse safely, Rinzler stepped into the water. Grimaced when it stung. Savannah came running while shouting, "I heard a roar, and brother, everyone is safe."
"The water stings."
Sarcastically, Savannah inquired, "what are you doing inside?"
Before he answered something sarcastic too, the roar became louder. Rinzler stepped out, "call Chief Ayn, now."
"Busy."
"Shit!" He cussed then composed a text to Chief Ayn and Doctor Bedelia.
The waves began, clearly, from the Axel Land, they hit his feet and flew back. Instead of fear surging in his veins, he was enchanted. Rinzler stepped forward it burned his skin and yet he didn't wince. Rinzler only stopped after Savannah shouted if he needed a psychiatrist.
The waves got larger, dancing in a way Rinzler would have found beautiful if he hadn't started blaming himself for what was happening. The melodious enchanting song from the lake continued, trees swooshed, seagulls cried, and the smell changed pungent. The trees behind them started swaying faster. Suddenly, the wind got stronger.
"Okay, brother, I am taking you back. Don't worry, I am sure it will stop sooner or later." Savannah stated, and Rinzler could hear the happiness in her voice. "I am glad you didn't go. That little bitch would…"
Rinzler interjected, his body on fire, "stop disrespecting my mate, you are my sister, and I would hate asserting dominance on you."
