[THIRD POV]
"It can't be, Mannequin assured us." His words and voice said different things.
When the lift closed, Bedelia whispered, "change of plans, check on him and shake him up till he wakes up, I will find Marina and try to talk some senses into her head. I can't believe I have to handle a lunatic like Marina, for fuck's sake, how is she not mourning?"
The lift stopped, before they got out, Bedelia turned to him, "I knew Marina was crazy but not this crazy."
When it opened they came face to face with Marina making them jump, Marina chuckled, "as you were saying? I am crazy? Oh, aunt, how are you doing? Now that you are okay you can badmouth me?"
Bedelia's mind went blank while Rinzler's heart began to beat erratically. Seeing his mate in such proximity did things to him.
"I am celebrating the death of my dad by planning a boat competition, is that wrong? What exactly do you want me to do? Scream like the banshee upstairs?" Marina asked her eyes with a hint of amusement.
Doctor Bedelia pushed Rinzler out of the lift and pulled Marina inside, "am I beautiful?" Marina winked at Rinzler not missing how he was staring at him. Rinzler swallowed hard and opened his mouth but nothing came out.
Doctor Bedelia closed the lift, hoping Rinzler understood why she dragged Marina. Realizing Rinzler wasn't going to wake up from his stature, she typed a message to him, "change of plans, I will look for Mannequin, you tell her, now."
"Look here, I have had enough of you." Doctor Bedelia started, the lift stopped and opened, when it did Doctor Bedelia regretted immediately pulling Marina inside.
Savannah had her hands on her waist, she pointed at Marina, "I did not finish speaking to you, you fucking heartbreaker."
"Who are you talking to angry woman?" Marina mused.
Doctor Bedelia closed her eyes, the two ladies never got along, even before Rinzler's rejection. Luckily, Marina's phone rang, and it showed Ivy's name, she pushed past Savannah, "hey Ivy?"
Doctor Bedelia watched as her face went from surprised then confused and then worried. She shook her head at Savannah. "I will be leaving, tell Chief Ayn I will be back soon."
"See, you are running." Savannah huffed.
Shrugging, Marina tapped her aunt's shoulder and said, "handle mom for me, her screams ain't fun at all." She stopped and stared at Rinzler. For a moment, a look passed through her eyes. The three of them looked at her, hoping she could say something useful to make Rinzler return to them.
For what seemed like an eternity, Rinzler whispered, "Marina, I need to speak to you."
"Are you okay?" Marina asked walking towards him in the lift, she used her leg so the lift won't close. She touched his face with her hands. Everyone held their breaths, it was the first time Marina acted like that to Rinzler.
"I am fine," Rinzler replied, leaning towards Marina's touch.
For a few seconds, it was only the two of them, Marina looked to be in deep thought as she stared at Rinzler. "I am glad you are okay."
Rinzler nodded, he was love-struck.
"Talk to her." Doctor Bedelia spoke, with her hands pushing down Savannah's shoulder.
"Savannah, go," Rinzler begged. Savannah's nose flared up, she walked toward Luna Audra's chamber. When Rinzler heard the door closing, he inhaled deeply, "Marina, your father isn't dead, it was a plan for us to get you here."
Marina said nothing, her hands moved from his cheek to his shoulder.
Doctor Bedelia nodded approvingly, she would have allowed the two of them to talk but with one look at Rinzler, she knew he needed support. If things went sideways, the guy would be down.
Doctor Bedelia entered the lift and closed it, Marina stared at her aunt, "what is this dude talking about?"
Dude? Okay, Marina, ouch.
"He isn't lying." Doctor Bedelia whispered.
"I am dying and you are the only one to save me. You have to mate me." Rinzler explained.
"I am not following," Marina replied.
Doctor Bedelia was confused as she stared at her niece, there was something in her niece's voice. Something she couldn't place a finger on. She nodded at Rinzler to continue. Rinzler inhaled deeply, "to make you come back, we had to lie that your father is dead. But he isn't dead."
Marina hummed.
"Marina, are you following?" Bedelia asked.
"I am following but not following," Marina said and removed her hand from Rinzler's hold. She faced her aunty, "why would dad die because of a man dying, that is absurd, aunt don't you think so?"
Shit! It wasn't going to be a ride on the pack, Doctor Bedelia uttered, "because he knew you will come immediately and do what has to be done to save him."
"Mmh, so dad is dead. Now I have to mate this dude and then he will resurrect, right?"
"Yes." Both Rinzler and Bedelia replied with a happy voices.
Marina nodded, and tapped her chin in deep concentration. She sighed, and faced the lift door, "have you ever wondered how a lift works?"
It was time for Bedelia and Rinzler to say, "I am not following."
"Right. It is a loop, and right now, I wonder if the loop isn't working, we have been here for ten minutes and it hasn't stopped. I wanna leave." Marina punched the lift button. She gasped in pretense, "it is working."
That wasn't the reaction they expected. Not at all.
"Marina." They called.
"Dad is dead and I won't appreciate you mocking me because I am not mourning in the exact way you all want. Yes, I am not good when it comes to mom's bond with me, it has been a long since I felt dad's. But right now, I know for sure I can't feel him at all. Isn't that proof enough that he is dead? Whatever you are playing at, stop! When I want to scream, I will scream, but not now. Okay?" Marina looked like she would search for loudspeakers if needed so they would understand what she was trying to tell them.
They only looked.
Her shoulder slumped, "whatever you had planned isn't funny at all. Now now, why do I feel like Savannah put you up for this? Why isn't the fucking lift stopping?" She screeched.
"Marina, believe me, please." Rinzler held her hands on his.
Marina pulled away and punched the lift button severally, " I am leaving but when I return, I hope I won't get to see your faces. Aunt, this is the least expected from you. I thought we would join hands in mourning dad, I guess I am alone in this."
The lift stopped. "Thank heaves, fuck!" Marina said. As they waited for it to happen, she said with finality, "let me not hear this stupid shit again, I have a boat competition to plan, Ivy to check on, and finally, a body to bury."
"Marina, we are not lying, accept Rinzler, please," Bedelia begged.
"No. This ain't a joke, whatever you had with him it is fucked up and I am disappointed at you aunty. I do not accept this man or Rinzler or whatever." Marina announced.
The lift opened. She turned and faced Rinzler, "you, I do not accept you."
"Marina, no." Rinzler broke on the floor. It was way worse than the first rejection.
"Aunty, goodbye, when I return you better have a list of competitors or I am done with you too." She said confidently as she walked out of the lift.
When the wolves heard Rinzler's breaking sound, they began running to see, Marina walked out of the packhouse with her head held high, removing her phone from her pocket, and she dialed Cecil's number, "we are leaving."
The wolves who heard her rejecting Rinzler dispersed from the way, mumbling, "rejected twice, that must suck!"
