Chapter 39

I tossed the knife up in the air and caught it after it spun around. I spun around and threw it at a tree. It got stuck in the bark and after a few seconds, another sound came from behind that tree.

"Pfft~ Hahaha! You found me!" A man said as he walked out from behind the tree I just stuck with the knife.

He was holding 8 similar knives in his hands, one in between each finger.

I waited for another moment, but when nothing else happened I bent down and picked up three knives/short swords off the ground.

I threw them at three other trees. They all got lodged into the bark.

A moment later three people walked out from behind those three trees.

One of them pushed up his glasses with his middle finger, causing them to glare in the sunlight. He had a magic wand in his hand and a tall mage hat on.

"There should be a 82.86% chance of success on this mission. There was a 5.75% chance someone came to help the adventurers and only a 0.34% chance they would be strong enough to fight against us. The fact that he could also catch Klien's knife, is less than 0.01%"

"Ha? Shut the fuck up, Du. I don't care about the odds." A girl carrying a whip in one hand and a sword in the other complained.

"We just need to do it ourselves, then there is a zero precent chance of losing, right?" Another lady with a large shield and small sword in hand said.

"Hehehehe! Right?" The man with knives said.

The magician man, Du. Shook his head.

"There is still a 0.0001% chance of failure."

I turned back to face the people on my side, ignoring their banter.

I noticed the maid, while pretending to do nothing, was already in a stance ready to either fight or run. It seems there's more to her than meets the eye, even Lily, her lady, seems to be unaware of this side of her.

The rest of the adventurers, minus the priestess, were all ready to fight already. The knights had also begun to assume a defensive position around Lily.

I smirked.

"You all ready?" I asked.

They all gave me a serious nod.

"Alright, Thief, you take the magician, Warrior, you take the girl with a shield, Tank and mage, you take the knife thrower, archer, you support them all. Knights, guard your lady, and I, shall have a little dance with the last chick."

I decided to take the hardest one to handle, a whip and sword would be an annoying combo for these guys.

Surprisingly, everyone nodded at my suggestion and offered no complaints.

I mean, I know it was a good plan, but I expected some objection as no one here knows me.

Well, whatever, I started walking towards my opponents when a hand grasped my cloak.

"W-wait! Y-you can't! You might get hurt!" Lily called out in a sweet and innocent voice.

I've heard that most men would have their hearts flutter and instinctively want to protect a girl when this happens. But I had no such feelings. I prefer smart, strong, level headed and capable girls over weak, dependant, aloof, naive and innocent ones.

I turned around and used my bloody, bandaged fingers to sweep some of the hair out of her panicked face before placing my hand on her shoulder.

"Don't worry, I'd never dream of getting hurt like this, I still need to protect my lady after all." I said with a sweet smile on my face.

Plus, you're being a total asshole by telling everyone else but me to go die, and only holding me back, the strongest person here, because you're scared I'll get hurt.

I heard the maids' teeth grind and the Tank clicked his tongue.

Hehehe, now that I pissed them off, let's get back to work. Ah, am I an asshole for flirting with Lily just to piss off her maid? I just wanted to see if she would show her cards… oh well.

I released Lily's shoulder and said one more thing.

"Besides, you're already being protected by very competent individuals" I said while stare directly into the maids eyes.

She narrowed her eyes when she heard me. Calculating something in her head, Her short shoulder length blue hair flowed back in the wind a little while I saw a glint in her blue eyes.

I turned to walk away towards the enemies.

"Ready?" I asked the people behind me without looking back.

""Yeah!"" They all called out in unison.

I smiled and kicked up a spear from the ground and caught it. I pointed it forward.

"THEN CHARGE!! FOR SPARTA!!!" I screamed out and we all ran towards the four enemies.

I always wanted to do that. So much fun, ahaha! I thought as I the spear left my hand and headed towards my target with a ferocious speed, it locked onto her head almost like it was magnetic.

I dashed forward after the spear in the direction of the girl. When I was about a quarter of the way there she was ducking under the spear and trying to deflect it with her sword. It pushed her back a few feet and made her stumble a bit before hitting a tree and nearly knocking it down.

"Oh? You're a strong boy. Have you been drinking your milk?" She asked as she sent her whip for my chest.

I dodged sideways only for her whip to follow in the same direction I moved toward, so I flipped back over it, it narrowly missed my back as I was mid air. I landed back on my feet and instantly took off again.

"My mom did always say I needed to grow big and strong after all." I replied with a smile on my face.
