CHAPTER NINE

When the footsteps stopped behind her, she slowly turned to see who it was and her green eyes met with some pair if deep dark eyes and she shrieked in fear, he was the same man who had named her. He now stood in front of her with his hands behind his back and a mischievous smile appeared on his face, before it was followed by a wicked chuckle, one that made her tremble inwardly. His handsome features looked brighter in the dark and she kept looking at him, fear clearly written on her face and then he asked again, "what are you doing here this late Ewa?". Summoning courage and not wanting to appear weak to him even though she was shivering and it was obvious she was, she answered, "I was going to the garden"

"oh, garden I see" he said and another chuckle escaped his Lips.

Can he just stop laughing, her heart cried

"garden?" she heard him say, "this late, why?"

"I already slept in the afternoon and I wasn't feeling sleepy and I was bored, so I decided to take a walk in the garden"

"a walk in the garden at night?"

"does it sound strange to you?" she asked, her muscle was now a bit relaxed

"of course it does, who goes for a walk at night?".

"well I do and I enjoy it and it's just the garden here, I just needed fresh air that's all"

"you almost made me believe that you're a spy like one of the chiefs claimed"

"spy, I already said am not a spy, think what you want"

"I think you just got me wrong, "I said you almost made me believe not that you made me believe"

"what the difference?" she whispered the question

"There is a big difference young lady"

"sorry for the disturbance, I will now take my leave"

" uhn, why are in such a hurry, aren't you going for a walk again?"he asked

"I will try to figure out where the garden is myself or better still return to my room"

"you can't go about waking people up, let me take you there" he said

"you don't need to"

"why?" he asked and she shook her head,

"nothing" she replied,"I don't want to bother you, I have already disturbed your sleep"

"it's good to know that you are aware that you disturbed my precious sleep" he agreed

I didn't shout or beat drum to wake you , she thought

" so you better do what I say, then let's go" he said and they began to walk in the corridor, heading for the garden. They Walked side by side quietly, his presence made her feel uncomfortable and she wished she could make him know that she wasn't comfortable with him around, then he spoke.

"it's frustrating isn't it?" he asked

"what is?" she asked, not quite getting his question.

"that you don't remember anything"

"of course it is, very very suffocating"

"your relatives must be so worried"

."of course they will be"

"but something baffles me, how did you remember you had an accident, if you can't remember anything" he said and she paused her steps and he did the same, "I guess it's because it was tragic" she lied. He wasn't in the the throne room whe she spoke about her accident, so how did he know?

",Oh, it must have been really terrible" he said and she nodded her head slightly in agreement and truly it was.

They got to the garden and he sat on the floor amidst the flowers and he beckoned on her to seat beside him, she looked at him with shock, then slowly, she Walked forward towards him and sat on the ground beside him, creating a huge amount of space between them.

"Instead of walking, sit down and enjoy the view, it's better than walking" she heard him say

"if you say so"

"good girl" he complimented and she threw him a quick glance, what is wrong with him, she thought.

He leaned backwards a little and placed his hands by his sides, resting on them. He stretched out one of his legs and folded the other one and his eyes fixed on the red rose that looked black because of the darkness that surrounded it. Looking at him this close, she saw he had some striking resemblance with princess Iwa, though she had concluded in her heart that they were siblings but that was just her own assumption and she decided to ask him to satisfy her curiosity. She adjusted herself to a more comfortable position and spoke.

"can I ask a question?" she asked and he looked away from the flower to meet her gaze and nodded his head before saying, "go ahead"

"among the two queens, which one is your mom?"

"the second queen" he replied and looked away from her to look back at the flower

"I don't know who is the first and who is the second, can you describe her or use her sitting position?" she asked politely

"she was sitted at the left side of the king"

"so she was right after all" she thought and smiled, then continued with her questions. "Is she the mother of princess Iwa too?" she asked and finally looked away from the flower to look at her.

"you see, I, Iwa and Adejare, the three of us that were sitted by the left side are the children of the second queen, then the ones who sat on the right side belongs to the first queen"

"oh I see, so you all sat by your mother's side"

"that's what it is"he replied

"the second queen is beautiful and so are her children" she said to have Araromi smile"

"she was the most beautiful maiden in the village during her youthful age, the king saw her and couldn't take his eyes off her so he took her in as his second wife"

"oh, I see"

"were you blind before" he said and she frowned at his word, "you keep saying, oh I see, oh, I see"

"it's an expression" she retorted

"ahn, look at her becoming rude" he said . Ignoring him, she went on to ask,

"So what position do you hold in the family, are you the second or third child?"

"you seem to be really curious about my life, pretty lady", he said and she hastily shook her head,

"no that's not it, I just want to no more about this place" she said and he nodded his head in agreement, am the third prince and the fourth child, the 1st queen first child is the first prince and the eldest, you will get to know them better later, so now, stop asking me questions and let me enjoy the view" he asked and shifted his focus back to the rose flower and it made Eliza wonder what was special about the flower that he kept looking at.
