13 Years Later || Loid's Narration

'My name is Loid Becket, and I am reincarnated as a side character into a game I played the night before dying. Now, you might be wondering what's going on and why I am narrating this. I mean, I got reincarnated into a game I played; come on, what can be more absurd than that?

Well, I am not a fan of this either, and honestly, it turns me off. But oh, well, I have to do this to summarize the events of the last thirteen years. So basically, what happened was… nothing.

That's right. I am a side character, and my life is pretty boring and generic. I don't have to fight the monsters, nor do I have to save the world. My role is to be the main character's best friend, who later kills me in the end to gain more power to save the world.

Yeah, you heard that right. I was used as a sacrificial lamb to save this world from evil. One might think I was honored and known as the hero or something, but no. I still remained a side character who was forgotten soon after his death.

No one cared what Loid did and what he lost.

In my previous life, I was the main character. I hate to admit this, but I had the main character complex since I had everything. A nice loving parents, too much money, hot and handsome, smart ass, and an annoying little sister.

Oh, I forgot about the most important person in my life— Mia. She and I go way back, and I mean it. Our parents were business partners, so you can already guess where this is going.

But you are actually wrong. It's much more fairytale-ish than you think. Mia and I were born on the same day at the same time at the same hospital, and our mom's beds were right next to each other. We were fated couples, or one would say, soul mates.

And since our parents were friends, we basically grew up together like twins, like a brother and sister. But things obviously changed as we grew up. However, we still stayed together.

We would have sleepovers, but that got awkward when we reached the age and became conscious of each other. Now, now, I wasn't how you think I was. I was shameless, and she was the same, but she was hiding it.

Time passed, and we grew up even more. Before we knew it, we were dating. You might be thinking about who confessed first, but here is the twist. None of us confessed our feelings to each other. We just knew what we were doing and how we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

I had even promised her that I would marry her once we turned eighteen, but I was killed a week before that. And… Mia committed the unthinkable on our birthday, which was supposed to be our wedding day.

I was devastated when I saw that. I felt like I died from inside, but I was revived again when the Goddess of Love and Beauty told me that Mia had also been reincarnated into this game. It gave me new hope to live and fight for my fate so I could meet the love of my life once again.

She told me that I would meet her at the Academy where I am supposed to go soon. Just waiting for that event to trigger.

Oh wait, I said I would summarize you for the events, but I got sidetracked. But since we are at it, let me finish my backstory.

The Goddess of Love and— oh, come on. I am not saying her full name again and again.

The Goddess Aphrodite showed me what happened after my death, and I learned that my killers were never found. Like, what the hell, dude? Not only did I die a painful and tragic death, but death wasn't avenged.

They said no one was seen or leaving that lavatory, so what, was I killed by a ghost or something? And why did they kill me that way? Those bastards chopped me into pieces while I was still alive.

I saw them cutting my body… argh! That was so gruesome! Well, no point crying over the spilled milk. I died, and that's all that matters.

Now, time to continue the summary. When I was three years old, I was given a blessing by Goddess Aphrodite, and it was not something I expected, although that was obvious.

As I had promised, I prayed to her every single day, but I have never seen her since then. I called for her, but she never appeared before me. I started doubting my memories and wondered if everything I saw that night was a weird dream or something.

Nothing had changed, and the so-called system I was supposed to get from her blessing never rang me until earlier this year when I finally turned sixteen. That day, when I woke up, a transparent screen appeared in front of me.

I knew at first glance that it was a system since I had seen it many times in my real life, but there was no instruction on how to use it, so I had to learn it by myself.

Basically, I need to talk to a girl and make her speak her name from her mouth. Once that happens, the girl will be registered in my system, and all the details will appear on the screen.

The names of the girls can appear in three colors. One is Green, which means that the girl is friendly and doesn't mind talking to me. The second is Orange, which means the girl is not friendly and does mind talking to me, but she wouldn't ignore me if I talked to her.

The third is Red, which means the girl wouldn't give a shit about me even if I am dying in front of her.

I know all the women in this village, and there is only one girl who is the same age as me, my childhood friend, Nue. She is a black haired jade beauty.

No, no. Don't get the wrong idea. I know what you are thinking, but it wasn't me who described her that way. That's what is written in the system of her character sheet, and actually, she is hot. She is currently with me, helping out at the farm.

As I was saying, I get information about the girls, but there is more. Orange and Red colors don't represent anything else, but the Green color does.

This village has a total of 269 people living in it; out of them, half are male, and the rest are obviously females. This system only works on females, and it's called the 'Pick Up' system.

I have no idea why it's called that, but if I had to guess, this system allows me to know everything about a girl, and I can use that information to make her fall in love with me. I still have to do most of the work, so it's not something I would call a cheat.

The side characters don't get all that. We are only canon fodder for either the story or the main character. Going back to the topic of the system, the Green color unlocks three more functions, out of which one is locked for some reason.

The first function shows me a percentage of how much the girl likes me. For example, most women in this village have 50%, with some a little higher. But only two females in this entire village have 100%.

First is obviously my lovely mother, who is in her early fifties, and the second girl is my childhood friend.

There is no information on what these numbers mean, but I made my own chart. 0 to 25% means friends but still strangers. 26 to 50% means friends on good terms. 51 to 75% means best friends. 76 to 90% means very best friends, and 91 to 100% means very, very best friends.'

That was coming from a boy who never romantically looked at any girl other than Mia.

'The second function is that this system gives me a list of what to do to increase the like-meter. For example, for some girls, it's 'make her laugh.' While for some, it's 'make her blush.'

Different girls have different lists of tasks, and the points also differ. Of course, if I do something they absolutely despise, then the like-meter goes down.

There is also this third function, and it's locked. I tried many things, but none of them worked, so I let it be. Perhaps, it will get unlocked when I trigger some event in the near future.'

Currently, Loid was at the farm, waiting for the event to happen, which could occur at any time. And, it happened.

A portal appeared at the village entrance, and monsters emerged. That event would lead Loid to the Academy and start his journey as cannon fodder.
