'This alarm will never make me sleep in peace', I murmured as I struggled to get my eyes opened.
I walked to the bathroom lazily to take my bath before mum comes in. She just hates people who are always late for appointments or other functions. I managed to finish early so that I won't be scolded so early in the morning.
I was done taking my shower within some minutes then there was a knock on the door. I knew it was mum.
"It's not locked ", I said and there she was already dressed in her uniform.
"You are not yet done?", she asked.
"Come on mum, there's still time", I dropped my shoulders.
"I'd be waiting for you downstairs, don't make me wait for too long", she said and turned to leave.
"Mum wait", I called her. "Are you wearing your uniform to my school?", I didn't want other students to know about my parents profession. Not because I didn't like it but, I didn't want them to be intimated by their presence.
There was an incident that occurred when I was in middle school. I had lots of friends with a week financial background until my parents decided to pick me up from school one day.
I lost my friends after that day and their resin was, they are not worth my friendship because I came from a wealthy family unlike them.
Ever since that day, I never thought of discussing my parents profession with them or any person.
"Is anything wrong with that?", she asked
"Can't you just wear something casual?", I suggested.
"I'd be leaving for work immediately after meeting with your principal…therefore I can't ", she said.
"But mum…"
"You know I don't like being late", she said and left the room.
I had no choice than to just get dressed and set out. I threw my bag over my shoulder and headed downstairs after dressing.
"You look good in that uniform", mum said when she saw me descending the stairs.
It was understandable she was now admiring my figure in the uniform since she had not seen me in it before.
I looked around the hall but didn't notice dad's presence.
"Where's dad?, I asked ignoring mum's complement.
"Something came up so he had to fly last night", mum quickly explained
"And he didn't bother to say goodbye "
"It was urgent that he…."
"I know mum, just forget it", I wasn't in the mood for any explanations." Can we go now?", I asked making my way out.
"But you haven't had breakfast yet"
"I'm okay, I don't have appetite for it"
"But…"
"Mum, do you wanna be late?", I cut her off and went to sit in my car.
Mum came out after some minutes and we drove out of the compound separately. Mum wanted me to join her but she'd leave for work after meeting with the principal meaning,I'd have to return home by bus which I didn't like.
I drove through the gate of Winchester High first and said hello to the security man before mum came in. Other students were already in including Keenan and Jennie. I just saw Keenan's car parked at the usual sport and I saw Jennie sitting beside the poplars tree when I drove in. Jennie hurried to meet me when I got off the car. I hugged her and greeted good morning.
"Urhm …Jennie, this is …my mum", I introduced when mum leaned on her car.
"You..mean…that's your…mum?, she found it difficult to talk and I understood her.
"Yeah", I scoffed
"Your mum works in the army?", she asked looking surprised.
"That's nothing to worry about Jennie, she cool", I said with a smile. "Come on, say hello", I suggested.
"Urhm hi madam…I mean ma'am…sorry Mrs ", she was confused as to how to address her.
"You can call me Mrs Hart, it's fine with me", mum smile giving her a handshake.
"Let's talk later Jennie, she's here to see the principal ",I said and led the way to the principal's office.
