Chapter 73

The place became so quiet since we were all waiting for the doctor to update us on how things were going on with Ryan. Jennie went to get us drinks from the fridge since we had all not been able to take anything due to the shock Ryan's condition came with.

"There's something I need to know", Ryder finally said breaking the long silence that had been reigning between us for sometime now. Everyone was ready to listen to what he was curious about.

"Who signed the consent documents for the surgery?", he asked making me look at him in awe. He had been with us for such a long time and he didn't get any thing to be curious about than that.

"I thought of that too", Jennie supported his lover boy making my eye her.

"Who brought him here?", Keenan added up to their curiosity making me sick of the situation they were putting me in.

"Ash called to inform me they were here and I came with Jennie ", Ryder answered him as fast as he could.

"You brought him here alone?", Keenan asked avoiding eye contact with me and it was just annoying me.

"Don't you think I'm strong enough to carry him here alone?", I threw a question back at him.

"If you brought him here alone then who signed the consent documents?", it was now Jennie's turn to ask.

"I did", was the shortest answer I gave them.

"You did?", they asked in unison as if they had planned it.

"Why can't I?", I asked a question which has an obvious answer.

"Because you are not his family", Ryan answered.

"Ts, well since I had to save a life, I decided to get engaged to him. That was how come we became family", I said with a wink.

"Engaged?", they asked as if they had some sort of rehearsal on how to speak in unison or something because that was what they were doing.

"What wrong with you guys?", I asked fed up of the concert they were having.

"Let me get something clear, do you mean you told the doctor you guys were engaged in order for him to carry on with the surgery?", Ryder inquired.

"So you now understand ", I said and he heaved a sigh of relieve.

"You mean you couldn't use any other option than engaged? You could have said he was you cousin or sister or anything else but don't you think engaged was too much?", Keenan spoke sounding angry. He was now looking into my eyes to ask his questions after avoiding eye contact with me .I didn't know why he was angry about what I did and I didn't want to know either.

"That was the only thing I could think of and besides who would believe I'm his sister or a relative since he never had one to introduce?", I said and walked away heading towards the lobby.

"I'm not done talking to you, come back here", I heard him call behind me but I refused to stop. I sat on one of the couch in the lobby to have some rest when he came to stand by me.

"Did you seriously follow me here ?", I asked a rhetorical question while seeing him right beside me.

"I told you I wasn't done talking so I followed you to continue"

"Huh?"

"What were you thinking when you told the doctor you were engaged to Ryan? Do you even think engaged is a word to use so lightly?", he asked holding his waste. He really looked cute that way.

"And what if it's not something to be taken lightly, at least it was able to save him from dying", I argued back.

"Have you considered what Ryan would do if he finds out about this?"

"That's between both of us and you don't have to worry about it. I can handle my own problems"

"You can't just get yourself engaged with anyone, do you hear me?", he was raising his voice getting people's attention on us.

"And why can't I?", I knew he was hiding something and I wanted to dare him to say it to myself instead of keeping it inside him.

"Because you just can't ", he said and walked out of the hospital.

"What has gotten into this boy", I murmured and walked back to where the two love birds were sitting.

"Where's he?", Jennie asked when I approached them.

"He left", I said sitting down. I was just feeling so exhausted and he was also adding up to my stress.

"Both of you make such a lovely couple when you fight", Ryder comment making me blush.

"OMG Ash, are you blushing?", I knew that could never escape Jennie's eyes.

"Who said I'm blushing, it's just so hot in here", I had to defend myself making them laugh.

After some time of sitting quietly, the doctor came to inform us they would be transferring Ryan to the recovery room to observe him. We had nothing to say about that than to just agree since it was the right thing to do. After they were done with the transfer, we were informed we could go in to see him. It was as if we had waited for too long, we rushed in after hearing the news to see how our dear friend was doing. He had a very good looking face while asleep. Then I remembered I had not called Ana to tell her the reason I was late and I knew she was going to scold me for that. I asked Ryder to look after Ryan and headed out of the hospital. Jennie wanted to stay behind since she didn't want to leave him alone.

I got to the house and met an angry face Ana leaning on the door waiting for no one but me.
