A jewel (Edited)

Mrs. Bills got home and found her son preparing to leave. "Mother, I have been looking for you."

She made a face and placed her bag on the table. "I was at Jeff's villa."

Oliver's face filled with worry. "Mother did that woman do anything to you?" he searched his mother's body for any sign of abuse.

Mrs. Bills placed her hands akimbo. "No wonder that girl doesn't like you. She is harmless; in fact, she is very open, honest, and straightforward."

Oliver scoffed. "She fooled you mother; she is not what you think she is…"

Mrs. Bills cut him. "Nonsense, I am a psychiatrist and I studied psychology and I know people when I see them. Just because someone is covered in bruises doesn't mean the person necessarily got in a fight. Tell Jeff that he has a jewel for a wife and I only hope he opens his eyes before it's too late."

She left for her room before Oliver could speak.

Amy finally stretched her body on the seat. The day had been long and on the last visit, she had acted like a reporter. Throwing question after question, anyway those were moms. If her mother would have been alive, she would have been that inquisitive. She ended up sleeping on the sofa dreaming of her mother.

Jeff came in the evening after a crazy night with his friends at a club. Noticing the sleeping figure on the sofa, he walked up to her and watched her peaceful face. He didn't know why he had been thinking of this face more than he ought to.

Oliver's words rung in his head, what was it that people saw in her that he was blind to? Even his grandfather and brother? She turned to the other side and he decided to get her a duvet to cover her body with. He might not be fond of her but he was still human.

He brought one of the duvets in his closet and covered her with it. He studied her face, those plump pink lips and toffee brown skin, her dark brown dreadlocks that almost covered her face, she was indeed beautiful. He brushed the strands off her face. Asleep, she looked soft but there was still this raw, tough aura surrounding her as if warning people.

"Why are you so tough Amy?" he asked softly. His eyes searching his face before he realized how stupid he looked and got up.
