She watched him silently and only tightened her folded hands as her eyes shifted to the tiny pool before her. "I am sorry that I lost my cool today—"
Her coolness blew off. "You lost it? What are you even saying? What do you think I am, a toy that you just toss aside when you're done with and then pick it back again when you need it…" she knew she wasn't even making sense but she just couldn't stop her mouth from blabbering. "You, you think I am made of stone. Stop saying sorry for the things you don't even feel. Just as much as I don't need your mood swings is as much as I don't need your pity!"
She looked away and was about to step away when he held her hand. Slowly, suppressing her anger she looked at him. "I, I shouldn't have done to you what I did but, it's just that right now my company is in a tough position and it's kind of a headache for me, not to mention that people you interact with are my enemies."
"You mean Patrick is your enemy too?" she questioned.
Jeff nodded and she choked on her saliva. "Let's say since he is engaged to your step-sister, his and your father's company are working together to bring me down. My enemies are kind of looking for any chance they get and you see somehow it's just too much."
A little ashamed she cast her eyes to the ground. "You mean that my project to support the local teams is taking a toll on your company?"
"No, at the moment, no, but look at the big picture, someday the team will grow and there will be lots of expenses, to help them play internationally, they might need a stadium and salary. My company isn't really planning to support projects on sports. It's not even our field and I am sure you're not planning to be a coach or spend the rest of your life working for teams."
Creases formed on her forehead. "I thought I could help, but I guess I kind of thought a tad too shallow."
Jeff smoothed the creases on her forehead. "Easy, you can donate funds instead of co-partnering with them. That's your choice to make too." He looked down at her dark brown eyes.
Noticing how close they were, she stepped back. "I will think about it properly." She wanted to get him away; she didn't like how close they were becoming and how somehow he was becoming good-looking in her eyes, yuck, she commanded her brain to stop thinking.
And as if he could read her mind, "You were taking a walk?" he asked his voice so soft. Subconsciously, she gulped. Was this man doing this on purpose?
"Yes." She looked at him and as she had expected he agreed to accompany her.
"You may never know when I might come in handy." He winked but Amy had started walking. They got into the colorful trees that blocked the sun from their heads only letting streams of it in. "Hmm, Amy, tell me…"
"What, if you can't be silent, go back to your office," she cut him.
Jeff pouted. "I wanted to ask you about your music career?" he asked quickly. Their eyes met and electricity flew between them. Not the romance nonsense, no, the anger one.
"Weren't you supposed to find out that?" she walked forward not letting the grass get entangled in her sneakers to slow her down.
"What good is a course if you can't sing?" she orated and glared at him.
"You— hmm, and what good are you?" she answered back.
Jeff scratched his clean chin. "I don't know, I think I am good, I mean, look at me, I made my own apps before I was thirteen." Amy coughed mockingly to his face and walked on.
"You're too talkative to be a CEO."
He ran after her. "I am a software engineer, not a data analyst, I am free to talk," he declared shamelessly. Amy wanted to punch him but held back. Tsk, this man. She walked as if she hadn't heard him. "So, tell me can you sing?"
Amy rolled her eyes. "That was supposed to be what you were to find. Tsk, you disappoint me Jeff; I must say for a CEO you are an embarrassment. If you can't find anything about your own wife then what can you even find about your enemies? Tsk, tsk." She shook her head in disappointment.
Jeff narrowed his eyes but only laughed. "I don't like intruding in people's privacy especially when not necessary."
She stuck her tongue out to him. "Petty excuse. Hmm, I even wonder why you are scared about your company when your girlfriend gets about a million each month and even has your debit card."
"Which birdie told you that?" he asked walking beside her.
"No, you're asking about a bird when your girlfriend is as foolish as hell?" she shook her head disapprovingly. "Oh before I forget, tell that fool head of yours to stop trolling my social media accounts and calling me names, she might not want to wake up the inner beast in me."
"And who's the inner beast, I must say I am curious?" from the corner of her eye, she watched him then clicked her tongue.
"Hmm," she sneered. "Someone said curiosity killed the cat, you may take the word for your good. Because when you get the chance to see my beast, your girlfriend might be on her way to the creator and I am sure you don't want that. Do you Jeff?"
He poked her temple a small smile on his lips. "Now this is unheard of, a mere girl threatening Jeff Williams?"
Amy rubbed where he had poked. "You know what is unheard of, is Jeff not being afraid of a nigga girl, daughter of the Wellington family, and a Mrs. William, don't forget she has nothing to lose. But don't worry," she rubbed his shoulder. "My inner beast is properly caged; it wouldn't come out with mere provocation." When Jeff remained silent, she took it as her cue to leave. "Husband, my feet are becoming sore, I will take your leave now."
