Jeff hurriedly closed down his work for the day and ran home to tell his wife the great news. He found her seated by the stones near the fish pond in the backyard with a notebook and a pen in her hand. How comes he had never spotted her writing before or was he too detached to notice?
"Amy," she turned and he couldn't help noticing a glint of surprise in her eyes. "I have some news you might want to hear," he stood up straight, his chin up proudly.
"What, you're divorcing me?" she asked cluelessly, and her voice flat like she was passing a message to him that she didn't care what he wanted to say.
Jeff blinked twice, this woman, he composed himself. "No, why do you always think of negative things?" he took a deep breath. "I have the answer to your challenge meaning I won."
"Great," she said plainly.
Okay, "Don't you want to know my answer?"
Amy shook her head. "I know you have the answer and I only hope you haven't harmed my best friend."
"So, how did you know I got it from your best friend?" he asked sheepishly.
"Only Lucy knew what I really wanted to do, I never talk of such things to others. Besides Lucy would never betray that information for anything so I am sure you traded the information for my life."
Jeff rubbed the back of his neck. "Something like that. So you'll be driving me?"
"I didn't say no!"
When he caught sight of the notebook he couldn't help asking. "So, what are you planning now?"
Amy shrugged and placed her notebook beside her, all the while playing with the pen's lid. "Whatever it is, keep your nose out of it."
He shrugged, what could he do to this woman, she seemingly always left him powerless. And speechless. "Okay, fine, I'll be in my room if you need me."
Amy chuckled dryly. "Have I ever needed you?"
Jeff touched his forehead. "Okay, what's with the mood, are you on your period?"
Amy lifted herself and dusted the jumpsuit she was wearing and stood before him craning her neck a bit to meet his eyes. "If you keep assuming my moods are altered by my period, then when you fall asleep, I'll assume you're dead and bury you in the backyard." She stepped aside and began walking away.
Why, why was he always tongue-tied, f***K this woman and her whole generation. He ran his hands through his silky hair and took shallow breaths before going back in.
The next day, Amy walked to the dining room at eight despite knowing Jeff was supposed to be at eight in the office. He found the man next to him roaring. "Amandla, what on earth is this?" he checked his wristwatch. "What's the time, do you know how late I am?"
Ignoring him, she sat for her breakfast. She made a thick sandwich and poured herself scalding tea. Slowly she took bites of the sandwich and blew on the tea before taking small sips. Jeff shut his eyes and when he opened them they were like flames ready to swallow anyone in his way.
"You woman! I don't have all day!"
Amy swallowed her sandwich before fluttering her eyelashes at him. "Oh my, you look like you're about to erupt, calm down, I am dining." She continued with her eating.
"Dining? I am late for work Amandla!"
She dropped her sandwich on the plate. "If you're such in a hurry, feel free to drive yourself, after all, you're a great driver, as compared to me," her eyes landed on her sandwich and she smiled. "I must have breakfast first."
Jeff inhaled and exhaled, he needed to calm down. "Is this a way to back out?" Amy smiled at him. he wasn't a fool, she smiled, how could she not play dirty after he had played dirty by threatening her friend, not to forget he actually kidnapped her?
"If you can play by your own tunes, why can't I?"
