My assignment! (Edited)

"Why are you so silent?" he asked when he noticed the Rooney's skyscrapers approaching. For some crazy reason, he didn't want to go back and work.

Amy blinked as she faced him. "Err, is there anything I was supposed to say," then a mischievous look crept up to his face? "Do you perhaps want me to sing…?"

"No, no, no," he shook his head. "I am fine, some silence is good too," he gave her a small smile and rested his hand on his knuckles looking out of his window. Amy didn't even know why her heart clenched at the sight. There was just something off in the posture. Like a kid sulking after being abandoned by a parent. It was as if he was craving attention that he was unable to get.

No, she stopped her curious mind. How could she even think that way about the great, mighty Jeff? But then, something in her reminded her that even great people have their weaknesses or a nasty scar or past. Was it really right if she asked, no, she berated herself, wouldn't that be minding his business and would only add to her sufferings with the man?

"We are here," she announced when she parked the car but he didn't move. Leaning closer to him, she realized he hadn't even been watching anything but being lost in his world. What was that, why was he so troubled? What was troubling him to that extent? "Jeff." She tapped him lightly and he sprung up startled.

His face quickly turned expressionless as usual. "Excuse me," he opened the door and got out. She took some minutes to shake off the incident off her head and followed him inside.

In the coming days, things between them got awkward as well as funny. Driving Jeff to and fro wasn't as bad as she had thought and she seldom saw Stephanie, much to her relief or maybe this was damn because she rarely spent time in his office.

One evening found her in his empty office. Amy tapped her foot impatiently waiting for Jeff to get into the office. This man, she paced about wanting to strangle him immediately after he set foot in the building. She wouldn't even leave because he would term that as going back against her word and she badly wanted to prove him wrong. She clicked her tongue in annoyance when the door creaked open and Jeff appeared. Her eyes rolled by themselves in their sockets and her mouth fired words at him continuously.

"You, where have you been? What is the time? Do you think my life revolves around me serving you? Why are you so late, if you wanted to be late you would have gotten a chauffeur or told me not to bother…"

Jeff placed his hand over her mouth, stopping her from talking. "Tsk, what a noisy parrot." He then moved swiftly and collapsed on his swivel, sighing and at the same time massaging his temples. "What's the fuss about anyway; it's only a couple of minutes late…"

Amy's sneakers came flying and landed right in the middle of his face before he knew it. "And you dare to say that? I have been waiting for you for about thirty minutes. I have my untouched assignments!"

Jeff slowly looked up, geez now she was getting violent. "Assignment is that why you're so hyped, you have all night," he answered with a lay-back attitude.

Angrily, Amy sunk her teeth in her lip, inside her she was fighting the sudden urge to pounce on him and tear him to pieces. If only she had known, she would have happily carried her assignments here and done them. But hey, just look where she was now. "I have around forty minutes to finish the assignment you dumb head, we were given it a week ago and I didn't bother with it. The deadline is seven or I'll miss the test and not graduate!" she was half screaming now.

Jeff swung a bit in the swivel and clasped his hands playfully in front of him. "All you have to do is write haphazardly and done, or." He wiggled his brows at her and she just felt like plucking them off. "I could pull some strings…"

She held her hand up to stop him, her head just spun, arguing with this man was pure madness. "Okay, why don't we just leave this building first?" she suggested with a forced smile.

Jeff picked up his jacket and laptop, maintaining eye contact with her, she scoffed, seriously what did she sign up for? "Sure wife, let's leave before you swallow me up." Her eyes narrowed. Why, why did it feel as if he wasn't talking about the swallow she knew? She schooled up her face and put a leg out of the room. "Wait." She paused and looked at him. "I have several files I have to take…" Amy slapped her forehead hard; at this rate, she was going mad.

"Ugh, just hurry up," she wanted to scream but to her dismay, it came out too calmly, even for her liking. It was as if her mind had resigned from thinking with Jeff. He got in and picked a flash disk on top of his desk before following her out of the office.

They had only stepped out of his secretary's office when the receptionist on the down floor came half running, half walking with her bosom bouncing up in the revealing blouse. Amy saw this and just shook her head; these women were sometimes just too shameless. Her eyes moved to her tiny skirt hardly covering anything. Okay, was this woman a whore or something?

"Boss, Mr. Williams," she called almost seductively as she approached them, her heels clinking on the marble floor. They both stopped as she approached closer. "Ohm, Mr. Williams, a man who claimed to be an investor called today, he said his name was Samuel Robbins." Her look was focused on Jeff as if she didn't exist, not that she even cared at the minute.

A soft sigh escaped Amy's lips. "You know what, this is insane, why would you even come all the way here after everyone has left just to inform him that? Shouldn't you have forwarded the message to the receptionist on this floor or his secretary if not the assistant? And what do you people even wear, this is an office, not a bar." She lifted her hands her eyes half opened and continued with an uninterested tone. "I don't even know why I am concerned about this. Jeff, I will be in the car when you finish this nonsense, two more minutes and I am driving off." She cursed under her breath when she realized she only had about twenty minutes to deliver the assignment. This was bad!

Hardly had she even reached the elevator when she heard him. "You heard my wife, leave the message to my secretary if it's important, excuse me." He took huge strides to the elevator and got in before the door shut.

It was obvious that he wasn't taking chances of her driving away without him; this thought brought a little smile to her lips. Which she found weird and let it disappear, unaware that Jeff had already caught it.
